Highway 1 around Catavina

thebajarunner - 3-30-2015 at 02:25 PM

1 is in the worst shape I have ever seen it, and I have traveled that stretch at least a couple times a year since before it was paved.
Lots of potholes and shredded pavement.
No idea why it is so much worse than usual but it is pretty crappy.
About the time you get up to speed here come so more rough patches.

It's been that way for a while now. Drove that stretch a few weeks ago and it was pretty bad.

Actually, the highway 1 is in pretty good shape for the most part. Just messed up in and around Catavina.

Strikes- no problemo!!
They are still gathering road side, but looks like the big furor has died down, there was never a hint that we would not get through the San Quintin corridor last Thursday.
They were having gatherings all the way up to near Colonet, but it was peaceful.
My riding partner, Baja Vida, rolled down the window and waved and shouted "Huelga" a lot.
I feel so sorry for those folks, living on $8 US a day.
And, some years back we did some medical clinics in their camps- it had all the charm of the slums of Port au Prince.
Los Pinos should hang their heads in shame!!!

The roads are not "torn up"
Just lots of ragged places to keep your eyes open and your teeth jarring at speed

5 is a better bet anyway....

We went To Mulege on the 20th of july, and there were crews north and south of Cataviņa filling the potholes aboard a small truck.

villafontana - 8-13-2015 at 11:10 AM

Hahaha....i dont know a lot about pavement, but it was a black stuff, so definitely it wasnt dirt. Unless it was volcanic ash! Haha.

Bob53 - 8-13-2015 at 04:10 PM

I remember when they did use dirt.

More like cow dung. We've encountered road crews many times in the area, but the highway never seems to improve. Not sure about the division of the highway among agencies and "counties" but this has been, for a long time, a real crap hole.
