More bad news for La Paz

rts551 - 4-6-2015 at 01:07 PM

Even the Malecon is not safe any more. They need to get this under control.

One killed (executed according to article) and 2 others injured and sent to hospital on the Malecon. 9mm casings found at the scene.

BajaBlanca - 4-6-2015 at 02:46 PM

very very sad news.

weebray - 4-6-2015 at 02:53 PM

There's a good lesson here. If you're a 20 something drug dealer in La Paz, driving a pimped out ride, you may want to avoid driving around known party hang outs at 4:30 AM. The rest of you just stay in bed and you'll be fine.

Interesting comment. where did you get that the dead person was 20 something and had a pimped out ride? The woman injured was 35 years old. no doubt it was drug related. Isn't early in the morning when most people start there walks on the Malecon?

build it and THEY will come

Bajahowodd - 4-6-2015 at 04:51 PM

It needs to be put in perspective. For instance, Akron Ohio has about 50,000 fewer residents and had more crime in the same period.

I feel absolutely safe when walking the streets of La Paz.

Warf - 4-6-2015 at 05:43 PM

Yes, La Paz is changing...as is the rest of the planet, but even so, we (a retired couple) feel safe here in La Paz. Walk the Malecon any morning or evening and you are there with moms, dads kids, grandmas, grandpas and lovers. I share the attitude of "Weebray" and "Bajahowodd".

rts551 - 4-6-2015 at 05:57 PM

Another shooting at 4 this afternoon.

How many this year.....we are only into the 4th month.

Bajahowodd....I don't go to Akron anymore. I do go to La Paz occasionally. Therefore the crime there concerns me more than Ohio crime.

I am afraid this is not random...but a concerted fight for control of drug trafficking that is spilling over to the general public.

Visiting La Paz is off my bucket list.....Don't wish to go south of Loreto.:(

more bad news for Las Vegas

Lee - 4-7-2015 at 11:51 AM

http://www.reviewjournal.com/news/las-vegas/suicide-m-resort...

''A man who killed himself in a Las Vegas casino on Easter left behind 270 pages of notes and a two-hour DVD accusing the M Resort of driving him to suicide after banning him from its free buffet for life program.

John Noble walked into the M Resort buffet shortly before 5 PM on Sunday and shot himself in the head while a crowd of terrified restaurant patrons looked on. The next day, the Las Vegas Review-Journal received a package from Noble containing his final manifesto.

In it, he declared "Today, I end my life due to the M Resort Spa Casino and its employees," who banned Noble from the premises in 2013 after he repeatedly harassed female employees.
Henderson police were contacted by a woman in 2013 who stated Noble was stalking her. Noble blamed the onset of depression on his subsequent loss of free buffet privileges.''

You now need to add dead people to your list.

bajabuddha - 4-7-2015 at 01:51 PM

In Mexico, the arrests of cartel leaders have created voids that need to be filled. There are many internal power struggles for control and turf. Unfortunately the tendrils of the kraken have reached across the SOC to La Paz, which has been a neutral playground for the 'bosses'... until now. The hits are going to be a fact of life, and the 'new breed' of gangstas don't give a rat's a$$ about stray bullets or civilian collateral damage; it only serves to show how much more bada$$ they are.

Millions of people live in New York. Millions in Chicago. Millions walk the streets every day, love their cities, and choose to stay. Those in La Paz are faced with a simple choice; stay, enjoy, and hope..... or move. Life itself is a risk. Ya spends yer money (on a buffet) and ya takes yer chances.

Cliffy - 4-7-2015 at 04:01 PM

There are places in Los Angeles I won't even drive through in the daytime and I grew up there!
Keep your nose clean and you're probably going to be just fine.

BajaBill74 - 4-7-2015 at 04:10 PM

My daughter in laws sister was visiting us from Sweden and she knows I drive to Mulege once or twice a year. She questioned the safety especially in TJ.

I told her that as long as you don't get involved in drugs or prostitution, you're safe, and that I'm too cheap to do either.

I'm sure the same is true in La Paz.

motoged - 4-7-2015 at 04:42 PM

BB74....

So, let's say you find a $100 bill that you forgot in your wallet....and you are feeling a little less like a cheapskate......

You may have a point here. Until recently, a few of the drug lords lived (hid out) in BCS. The deal was that they would not tolerate any violence near where they were living.

They are gone now, as far as I know.

rts551 - 4-7-2015 at 05:08 PM

Lets say another shooting happens on the malecon, or maybe at the shopping center....You have no drugs.....our absolutely safe....keep on walking.

On edit: Look guys, I don't think these idiots care who gets caught in the line of fire. I would be careful. It is spilling into areas that we all inhabit. Another yesterday evening at Colosio Boulevard and Toronja street near a gas station that is located on the corner.

Wow, La Paz has always been my destination via moto for Carnaval for the past 5 years. I'm mending from some surgery this year and really missed the festivities and the event. I've always promoted this moto trip as the best way for me and some fellow riders to travel the peninsula and spend a few days getting settled and ready to head back north again. I've never been a resort person and the fact that La Paz is a working class town with a port, refinery, malecon and nearby beaches has been much more attractive than some 'built to order' resort. There are always unintended consequences and we might be seeing a shift in the drug cartel trade. With the legalization and acceptance in the US for marijuana, it appears that opium products and heroin are becoming the focus of their operations. That has historically produced much more violence in association with it.

I have been to some rough sections of the planet and there are plenty of instances when just being in the wrong place at the wrong time is all it takes for a bad outcome. I hope the violence can be restrained by whatever forces are needed to keep the general population from being involved.

If the first shots don't get you duck, dodge, dive, roll, and run for cover.

Cut to the chase; the question to ask is, what are the chances that your Baja Nomad buddy is el sicario con cuerno de chivo manejando chevy compacto blanco?

About the same as being hit by lightning twice?

Early morning Malecon walks are still peaceful and fun and evidenced by the crowd still showing up.

BajaNomad - 4-9-2015 at 03:05 PM

High visibility today on La Paz malecon:

Federal Police
State Police
