Today's Baja Photo "The High Jump"

Pompano - 4-8-2015 at 09:39 AM

This may not the world's record porpoise jump...but it was for us on this fine day near Pta. Conception. We attracted about a hundred of these playful and entertaining seagoing characters. Jumping seemed to be the theme of the day and this one was so good, it could be a star performer at San Diego's Sea World.

It's so nice to have a 'porpoise' in your life, right?

It's great to be alive.

Great shot Roger.
When in the middle of a pod we used to slow down and slap the side of the boat close to the waterline and got them agitated and before long they would perform like in a circus with front and backflips and giant jumps. Very entertaining and spectacular.

Beautiful show. Never get tired watching them

Many years ago in Bahia LA

We was watching a young Thresher shark doing his thing

Jumping and playing. We watched him/her for along time

And no it was not hooked

Wow! Such exuberance... such joy.

So great to see this in the wild instead of performing for fish!

Looking forward to another trip to Baja just to see those performing porpoise! Gracias, Roger.

Life is good out on the Cortez! I always look forward to whatever a new day on the water brings. Combining a fishing day with playing with the porpoise...what could be better?

That impressive high-jump was followed by many other displays. As my boat went past the porpoise followed up with another jump in my wake..as if saying "Hey,come on back! Let's play some more."

Like Vandenburg said, slowing down and hitting the boat's sides will attract some playmates as Co-pilot and friend show in this photo. The gals and all of us were having as much fun as the porpoise who wanted to come meet us.

Also the boat dogs encouraged the porpoise to come meet them...and vice versa. Seemed to be kindred spirits for the moment. I'm sure the dogs would take a ride if they could?

I'll take a sight like that any day. My thanks to Baja.
