Hmmm Do you have to have permission to reproduce and post copyrighted material?

Out of print does not mean out of copyright --- you might want to check out the laws sometime as it can be quite complicated as to what constitutes an infringement and what does not.

But out of print has NOTHING to do with the copyrights.

The reproduction of copyrighted material, without prior permission of the copyright owner, is illegal according to 17 U.S.C. Section 501.

Copyright is valid for the life of the author plus 70 years.

There are some exceptions mainly for formal educational use.

For all NOMADS. This is a reminder. Do not violate copyright laws. Here is the law for the U.S.

17 U.S.C. Section 501. (its too long to reproduce)....lots of info on the internet..mainly to do with songs and movies.

Rather than going all political and feeling so picked on, just educate yourself on the copyright laws. You mentioned the work being out of print and you not using it for commercial reasons --- neither of which negates the law. Nor does you wanting to share things negate the law.

Just be aware and if you choose to ignore the law, ignore it. And if Doug also wants to ignore the law, so be it. It probably will NEVER come back to haunt you.

Teachers are the worst offenders of violating copyright laws, but most of the time they are aware of what they are doing. Does it make it right? No.

No one is picking on you. You just made a couple of false statements and as you always say, you want the facts so check it out and read the law, the interpretations of the law including all the grey areas, and then decide.
