Just curious...has anyone not been able to get a Sentri pass on a car that has lightly tinted windows? I took my car to Otay Mesa to be inspected. The
inspector would was not allow my Honda Civic to be added to my sentri card because it has front 2 windows tinted. He said that since my cars window
tint was not factory installed; I would have to remove it to have the vehicle pass inspection! My friends car passed with window tint much darker then
mine...

The tinting is subjective to the inspector's attitude.
My vehicle passed with the three rear windows tinted.

According to the SENTRI regulations, the front side windows and windshield cannot be tinted beyond factory specifications.
That said, it usually depends on which CBP person inspects the vehicle.
If you need or want darker tint, do it after the inspection and remember to roll down all windows when approaching the CBP SENTRI booth

Wait to tint your front windows until after your Sentri has been approved. Then Just roll your windows down as you approach the border.

Beside the point, but a truck in front of me at inspection was denied without discussion for having a cracked windshield.

I was going through the Ready Lane about 18 months ago, and the CBP officer saw my window tinting and immediately directed me about 50 feet from the
booth where a SD police officer was waiting and writing tickets for all the people with infractions as they crossed into the US. He had so many people
lined up it was creating a traffic jam. I got a fix-it ticket on the spot and had to have the tinting removed. He said it was because they were
cracking down on cell phone use while driving, and the tinting obscures their view into the car. It was clearly a joint venture between the two
agencies. You can remove the tinting and add it again after you pass your SENTRI vehicle inspection, but that won't prevent the SD police from nabbing
you for it. I would just leave it off.
