Hi
Lifetime treat! We are travelling from UK to US in Feb (Grand Canyon etc), going on into Baja for whale watching (Guerrero Negro) & driving around( ?
San Quintin &Mulege). Booking all sorted for US. We need to rent a car in San Diego for 2 weeks in Baja. Would also be grateful for tips on motel
type accom. /must-sees

My goodness, there are so many options!
From North to South ('Must Sees')
1) La Bufadora, sea water blow hole 10 miles south of Ensenada and then west on paved road.
2) Mission sites along the way (see my http://vivabaja.com/bajamissions page to pick)
3) Catavina Rock Art site http://vivabaja.com/703/page5.html and boulder field
4) Bahia de los Angeles (Costa del Sol or Raquel's motels). Mision San Borja is just 21 miles south from the L.A. Bay paved road over a good graded

5) San Ignacio (drive into the town plaza in the date palm oasis, Ignacio Springs Bed & Breakfast is highly recommended http://www.ignaciosprings.com )
6) Santa Rosalia has historic sites from the French copper mining years including the church designed by Eiffle.
7) Mulege is another oasis village, known as the Hawaii of Baja by some. The Serenidad Hotel is recommended.
8) Bahia Concepcion begins a few mile south of Mulege and has many beautiful beaches.
9) Loreto is the mother of California, where the mission trail north (and south) begins, established in 1697. Many places to stay, read reports here
for recomendations.
That should be enough to keep you occupied for two weeks! See my web site for other ideas...

When you get to San Diego, go to any triple-A place (AAA of Southern California) and get a map of Baja and a Baja guidebook. Another great guidebook
is found here... "The Magnificent Peninsula" by Jack Williams.

Bob, they can go to Discover Baja Travel Club, in San Diego and get all the books and maps they want, including AAA's. They do sell to non-members, if
they don't want to join ($39 and get discounts and newsletter). http://www.discoverbaja.com on line.
Also, http://www.mapworld.com is another on line source for maps and guidebooks. I bet they will even ship across 'the pond' to the mother country!

Instead of Guerrero Negro for Whale watching I would suggest San Ignaciao...go to the Hotel Rice & Beans, contact Ricardo to arrange a "panga" for you
(up close and personal) don't get traped on one of those large boats only to watch others in the pangas petting the Whales while you can only watch.
