San Felipe Trip

Baja_Itzcoatl - 5-19-2015 at 01:04 PM

Going to San Felipe this weekend. I went for the first time in 2013, haven’t been back. Has anything changed I should know about? I had a blast in 2013 and hope it’s the same. Hotel ideas would be greatly appreciated. Stayed at Hotel El Cortez the last time. We just decided this morning to go, so haven’t planned anything yet.

The El Cortez is still the best place to stay. Try to get one of the beachfront bungalows for a superb sunrise view!

ehall - 5-19-2015 at 02:55 PM

Stopped last Tuesday for lunch on the malecon. Not too busy, just right.

freediverbrian - 5-19-2015 at 04:13 PM

This is memorial weekend the town will be packed. Better have hotel reservations, and be ready for a party.

sancho - 5-19-2015 at 04:25 PM

Good point about this weekend being Memorial 3 day weekend,
in the past this weekend is one of the busiest in SF, also since
it is beginning to warm up, the Mexicali tourists go on the weekends to SF, don't be suprized if you find the town
somewhat full. But a 3 day weekend Sat. nite on the Malecon in SF with
the sights and sounds is a hoot

its also the seafood festival.

Ive never been during the seafood festival. Can anyone comment on if the seafood festival is anything like their shrimp festival in November? if it is - yes it'll be PACKED.

DK sez not a problem, no one goes to Mexico anymore....He should know, he was there once....BUT sometimes he holds the glue too close to his nose when he's working on those sprinklers.....SF will be crowded on a 3 day holiday weekend....Have fun anyhow....

chuckie - 5-20-2015 at 09:39 AM

Were you ever there on Memorial day weekend? In the past 10 years?

since when has that stopped him from giving advice?

Baja_Itzcoatl - 5-20-2015 at 12:05 PM

Wow sounds like I need to make reservations now. In 2013 I rolled in on a Friday afternoon & got a room with no reservation no problem, also on MDW. Thanks everyone!

chuckie - 5-20-2015 at 12:19 PM

I blew through there last year on the Friday...got a room..out of town a ways...left early the next morning so didn't really see how crowded it got...seemed to be a LOT of folks in town..Enjoy...

David K - 5-20-2015 at 02:59 PM

I have been to San Felipe nearly every Memorial weekend the past 10 years and many more the previous 30 years.

chuckie - 5-20-2015 at 03:08 PM

bajacalifornian - 5-20-2015 at 03:58 PM

So, then you know of all of the dirt bikers, three and four wheelers that kick up dust and make a crap load of noise in town all day.

liknbaja127 - 5-20-2015 at 08:15 PM

We are heading down early Friday, we had a hare time getting a room! Better start, calling asap. The people are coming back!
Have a great weekend!

You two remind me of two kids in the back seat of a car on a long trip......"but mommy, he touched me".........

You both need to get over yourselves or take your personality conflicts to off-topic or u2u

Your third grade antics are annoying and detract from what this board is supposed to be about

Oh, and no reply is necessary from either of you

bajaguy - 5-21-2015 at 12:39 PM

It's free, and worth every penny. I also have the hands of a sturgeon.

DK, you prolong the insanity (feeding the trolls) by answering back. Sometimes, nothing to say is better

Bajaguy, thank you. If you recall, I am always on defense, but even then I am feeding the trolls. They even have issues with me removing posts AFTER complaining I posted something in the first place! LOL

Geez guys - take it somewhere else

John M - 5-21-2015 at 01:49 PM

Childish back and forth to say the least - come on guys why don't you just take it to u2u and spare those interested in the topic.

Just in the last few years...the route from Downtown Mexicalli to San Felipe has improved 100%. The drive south of SF is even better now. I recommend going south. Festivals are better managed now...including a great clean up crew during the day and night.

Malecon was redone....must say that is better too. Cal Max supermarket is really great.....new off the main drag. The plus of this outfit is that they hire the old folks to bag the groceries. They rely on the tips. They way they have these folks line up to access the cashier ports...is very interesting itself.

While we all have our favorite sots to eat at...I strongly recommend the 'Vag' restaurant that sits across the street of the OLD harbor . Order the "Volcano" for one hell of a great meal. Excellent service.

The economic downfall of several years ago really hit this town deeply....many vacancies and abandoned buildings.

Vag question

John M - 5-21-2015 at 08:27 PM

McFez - we'll be in SF in a few weeks and have really had a great meal at the Vag....However a few months ago the meal, well, it sucked. Maybe just an off day or change in cooks or who knows what?

If your recommendation is from recent experience we'll give it another try.

It is a nice and relaxing place, the waite staff is entertaining.....

Hoping it is back to what it was two years ago.

another question - what about El Nido - used to be our favorite, not so much lately.

About a month ago. We go there there often (I have a home in SF). I am super surprised that it sucked for you. when you go in there next time....ask for Alberto Diaz. I enclose a picture of him. Tell him that Farmer Deno sent you.

El Nido - used to be our favorite also.

Times of hardship will make these restaurants go on the cheap......most have done that in North Baja. I just go to a few for the time being.
