loreto marina

Hoagey - 5-19-2015 at 08:12 PM

first timer in loreto....

anyone know if the fishing coop members are the only ones that can moor a boat monthly at the marina?

did the coop pay and build the marina?

I tried to ask the manager, but I don't think he understood my questions...

thanks in advance

The marina was originally built by the Federal Government, and was given as a gift to the people of Loreto in the 80's.. API came along a few years ago and took over operations of the marina for consideration/ security of the cruise ships coming to Loreto.. They put in place a launch ramp fee and collect a monthly fee from the commercial boats that have slips.
You can request an "overnight" pass if you need to tie up at the dock and they have the space to accommodate you..

Hola La Tijereta...so then, do you know if a non-commercial boat can get a monthly slip at the Loreto marina... or must one pay a fee for launching for each time...or ?

While I am not certain of this, we were there for three consecutive days and paid a fee each day...If I understood the answer to your question, which we asked more than once....it was a pay by the day deal....We did not want to leave the boats in the water onite....more trouble taking everything out of them than pulling the boats....

Roger.. No monthly slips available for sportfishing boats.. Launch fee is running $160mp a day to put in/out.. Talk of expanding it to a larger marina w/ slips.. keyword is 'talk"..

Is API the local commercial fisherman's Coop?

Thanks in advance

API is the main gun. Administracion of ports, ferries and associated stuff.

Local coop are the captains of the pangas, floating in the pool.

Yup, No overnight slips . Put in and pull out same day . Then several years ago they started charging a fee to launch ...Their are no services for that fee , just the privilege to launch your boat and then try to find a place to park your truck and trailer .

Loreto is a cute little town and the people are fantastic but the marina situation is chalenging . Although , it is a helluva spectacle in the summer seeing 40 boats jam the marina as the bait guys jump from boat to boat and fill your bait tank with Sardines .

Oh Loreto , I just don't have the energy to launch everyday and find it quite comforting that my boat now lives in a slip in La Paz.

Drawback of any of La Paz's downtown marinas is the long way travel to any decent fishing grounds, especially at Mexico's fuel prices.

Remember Escondido has a perfectly good ramp at the end of the road, paid for by gringos. After completed overhaul, Fonatur started charging launch fees and than, when the new facilities were completed, shut it down completely.

Another Fonatur wisdom.
