Towing my PWC into Baja

Greeting Nomads,

I'm planning on towing my jet ski into Baja; anything I need be aware of ?

I'm going to add additional "towing a trailer" insurance and possibly purchase the "on the water" liability insurance.

Is my registration for the vessel/trailer plus the insurance all I need ?

You'll have to do the Temp. Import Permit for it.

what is the difference between taking a quad in and taking a jet ski? Is there a difference? Nancy

If your going in at TJ.My dirt bikes,jet ski.No temp permit. Current Reg up to date,no photo copy's

My advice is the same one I would follow. Don't leave your PWC unattended. Gated compound's OK but not on the streets. It will disappear trailer and all. Same goes for quads.

When I shop at Costco in Cabo with my surfboard on top, I hire one of the guys outside to watch my car. Just me.

Thanks Lee, I appreciate that. Although I do consider myself a fairly seasoned Baja guy; I've never brought my ski with me. I'm more concerned with the technicalities at the border and check points.

Right... I thought the TIP was only for the mainland, south of Guaymas?

Lately friends of mine have been stopped at the border with their boats just coming to the river. They have been told that if it is under twelve feet no permit is needed. I think a jet ski would fall under that rule.
As all rules lately they change based on the day and the guy at the border

I'm comfortable without the TIP being as the length of my vessel does not exceed 14' 6".
According to that link, a Tourist Entry Form is required. I'm assuming this is the standard requirement (for stays longer than 72 hours) regardless of towing a jet ski. Generally I don't get FMM unless Im planning on spending weeks and definitely when going south of GN.
Woody, out of curiosity do you get FMM for a week-long surf trip to the area north of GN?

1. The vessel is the property of the person residing in a foreign country.
2. Present identification verifying your nationality and a current Tourist Entry Form.

Yes, when we travel past the DMZ near Maneadero (Las Canadas) we always buy the FMM. The cost is minimal.

Get it for 180 days and do as many trips as you can fit onto that one visa. The law is intentionally ambiguous so use it to your benefit.
