ok fellow nomads. what must one do to be able(as a U.S. citizen) to work in mexico and is it difficult to do whatever it is that needs to be done?

You can apply at your local us based mexican consulate for either lucrativa residente temporal or residente permanente and you can work, though in the
case of temporal you will need a employer sponsor in advance. You can also work from home (us) while abroad. You may find good info at mexconnect.com
