Anyone have experience turning in a car permit late?

JZ - 6-7-2015 at 04:25 PM

Went down to Sonora and had to get a permit for the truck as I was hauling some dirt bikes down.

I'm a couple months past the 6 month permit length. Anyone have experience turning one in late?

No, but complete the process ASAP. Don't they have your credit card number? I hate to have to try and get the money back after they charged it.

You can certainly turn one in late, at the appointed locations, but you will lose your deposit. No exceptions for even one day late, from what I've read.

No exceptions for even a vehicle that has been stolen, totaled, whatever EVEN HAVING A POLICE REPORT TO THAT EFFECT.

It's a cash cow.............

Not first hand info, only second hand.

What happens if you never turn one in? Anybody know?

Yeah, you cant bring another car in, outside the free zones.

I think you are guessing on this post. Have you ever actually purchased a vehicle permit?

SFandH - 6-7-2015 at 05:43 PM

Yes, in TJ in 2010. But, and I'll admit it, I assumed they would charge you for the value of the car. So, yes I'm guessing.

That's why I asked if anybody knew.

Thinking about driving down from LA this week to turn it in.

Do they have vehicle permit facilities at the Tecate crossing?

SFandH - 6-7-2015 at 06:17 PM

I don't know about Tecate. U2U me if you want directions to the TJ place. It's in Colonia Federal real close to the crossing, but it's TJ, complicated.

could you just mail it down to one of us that lives here in TJ and we turn it in for you? Maybe for $MX 200 pesos or something?
