NE Poland - home for a while

So, time for an update as to where we are! WEGORZEWO is the name of the town and it is first mentioned in the 1300's but became known as Wegorzewo in the 1600's. BTW - AL "Ws" are pronounced as "V". Also, the letter "c" is pronounces as "ts", so Blanca is Blantsa LOL so Poles spell my name BLANKA.

Our apartment is located smack dab in the city center - a perfect location. Les's brother built the building and we are on the third floor. The first floor is rented out to a shoe store, the second floor Les's brother runs a clothing store in and we are on the third floor. They live in a hotel they built about 5 minutes away - the hotel business runs in the family, you might say.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WEGORZEWO HAS A BIG LAKE, I WILL POST MORE PICS OF IT ANOTHER DAY......THIS IS A NICE TOWN AND ONE FEELS QUITE SAFE DAY OR NITE. AMAZING THAT WE ARE SO FAR NORTH THAT IT IS LIGHT UNTIL ALMOST 10PM AND LIGHT AGAIN AT 3 AM. AND I MEAN LIGHT ENOUGH TO WALK AROUND THE STREETS EASILY!

What I see is that the Poles fix their pot holes the same as in the US; 2 supervisors and 1 worker. Glad yo're having a good time with the relatives.

robertdurrel -we had a good laugh because that is exactly what Les has been saying for days! So much lounging around while one or two do the work.

No one speaks a word of English here in town....that sure is helping my Polish! There are no American tourists ever, I would venture to say. There must be some British as museum and tourist plaques are in Polish, German and English.

It is a very nice change from Baja but the last 2 days have been gray and ohhhhhhhhhhhh I missed La Bocana!

Polish is known for being one of the most difficult languages, sigh. I read a blog where an American said he learned to speak almost fluent Polish in one year reading HARRY POTTER. So, I went out and bought a book and a Polish /English dictionary and tomorrow this lady gets more serious about learning. I can understand 90% - which is great - but I can barely speak at all.


MY POLISH TEACHER FROM 6 YEARS AGO - we stopped by for a visit today and I will be going to her school to allow students to practice English with me.









MY NEW STRATEGY:



NOTEBOOK ON LEFT, DICTIONARY ON RIGHT, BOOK TO READ IN THE MIDDLE!








I did rosetta stone before I came over the first time. No doubt that it helped me tremendously - from the first day I could understand some basic phrases.
