MOBILE HOME TRANSPORTING

Udo - 7-15-2015 at 02:45 PM

I'm the one who needs some help this time:

Do any Nomads out there have any knowledge of who transports mobile homes from San Diego area to Ensenada?

I'm really having a difficult time finding someone to do it. The two mobile home dealers in Ensenada area apparently do not transport from the US to Ensenada, and everyone I called in San Diego area that was listed under mobile home transport either is no longer in business, or does not transport from the US to Mexico.

Thanks for your assistance!
Udo

SFandH - 7-15-2015 at 03:29 PM

That may be a tough one. I've often wondered why there aren't more manufactured homes in baja. Maybe it's because Mexico won't allow them in. Are you sure it can be done?

I bet an American style "mobile" home park with single, double, and triple wides would go over great with American retirees. Bingo, shuffle board courts, and an eight hole, par 3 golf course. What more do you need?

Oh yeah, a Tiki Bar. :D

chuckie - 7-15-2015 at 03:32 PM

Bosoms....

bajabuddha - 7-15-2015 at 03:54 PM

Maybe that's why there aren't any there; maybe México wants to stay and be México....

All of the used mobil homes in Baja were brought down here when they were no longer allowed in California parks becase of age. I have seen them coming down here on the free road but never noticed a name on the trucks hauling the two halves. The people selling them down here certainly won't tell you who hauls the because they want to sell you one on their lot.

DENNIS - 7-15-2015 at 04:52 PM

They have to be imported. Get in touch with an import agent. They'll know who transports.

Terry28 - 7-15-2015 at 04:54 PM

Now that is the correct answer...

DENNIS - 7-15-2015 at 04:55 PM

These older units can be acquired free of cost NOB. When a tenant wants to upgrade, they'll give away the old unit to anyone who wants to have it removed. That's how a lot of the local crap was acquired.

So it can be done. Good!

Udo, let us know how it goes. It's an interesting option for those of us who can't afford to build castles in the sand.

Udo - 7-15-2015 at 05:21 PM

You are right, Bob!

I have contacted the two dealers in Ensenada, and gotten nowhere. I think they contract someone in the US to bring them down, and then they haul or sell them in Baja.

I think I'll follow DENNIS' suggestion and contact a vehicle importer.

Udo

I believe these people have some info, or least transported to Baja at one time:

http://www.mawilliamshomes.com/

Next time you are in Ensenada, head up Hwy 3, past San Antonio de Las Minas. Just past town, towards Tecate, there is a mobile home lot on your left. They also might have info, or maybe could transport from Otay.

Have you contacted these people??

Hey, Udo....where are you going to put it?

chuckie - 7-16-2015 at 01:50 AM

UDO....Did you sell your place in Ascuncion?

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 08:54 AM

Lomas Del Mar, DENNIS.

Becky is trying to work a deal on the corner lot that is currently occupied by a tear-down mobile home.

The place is in San Antonio De Las Minas, Terry, and I went there las week and spoke with the owner who was going to get back with me by Monday. Called him back and left four messages. I don't think he's interested.

bajagrouper - 7-16-2015 at 09:06 AM

Don't mobil homes attract hurricanes?

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:07 AM

One of them would be a big hit in Ensenada.

norte - 7-16-2015 at 09:09 AM

Good idea, Dennis. Clean the trash out of Socal and take it to Mexico. Better than , as Trump puts it, bringing their trash up here.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:20 AM

That REALLY is an insulting remark to call my purchase of a mobile home someone's trash!

You can be sure I'll report you uncalled for remark to Doug.
What in the frog did I ever do to you!!!

norte - 7-16-2015 at 09:27 AM

geeze, I was referring to Dennis's remark about old trailers. Complain away.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:28 AM

Who said anything about buying an OLD trailer...I would not call a 2004 model "OLD".

Trailer

J.P. - 7-16-2015 at 09:38 AM

Udo there is a guy in rancho Packard that was involved in bringing most the trailers that of the trailers that are in Lomas. He has a place in Rancho Packard. He might be some help.

SFandH - 7-16-2015 at 09:47 AM

The newer double wide mobile homes are quite nice. I think that's what Udo is talking about. Check it out.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:47 AM

Would you have a contact info, J.P?
There are a lot of people that live in R.P. (I was just there last Saturday).

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:50 AM

Thanks, Buddy!

I will be bringing a triple wide unit. But I don't want to write the check until I have all my ducks in a row, and the last is transportation.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 09:55 AM

Hola Terry!

Thanks for the information...however, the fist two are a NO, and the second two don't know and will have someone call me back.

At least we tried.

Saturday morning will be my deadline to write or not write the check. The mobile home is parked in a park in San Diego and they are converting the place to condos. Everyone must move out.
BTW there may be some other great deals there since there are 60+ mobile homes there.

Udo

Udo:

I asked a friend some time ago who moved one down from North San Diego to Rosarito. He gave me this contact:

http://marquezmobilehome.com/

Let me know if that works for you. I get this question from time to time and haven't heard any feedback - good or bad...

His name is Rex, he sells mobile homes in the states I don't have any Personal involvement with him and no contact info. as a side John Gammell has a very nice mobile in Lomas for sale.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 10:05 AM

We looked at Gammell's mobile home. It is an older unit, but renovated. He thinks the place is made of gold, however.

Many of the 70s 80s models were poorly built with some horrible material choices but you get into some of the high end survivors from the late 40s to mid 60s and they can be worth a pretty penny.
We scooped up a few mid century modern mobile homes and travel trailers and planted them on the ranchito. I think growing up in Los Angeles during the sixties placed a love in my heart for the cars, architecture and yes the trailers.
Good to see you setting up a place closer so you can enjoy Mexico Udo, all the best, Lionel

All I did was comment on most of what you see here today.

Rex is outta the business. My understanding is he had a falling out with his partner at the time, who owns the used mobile home business on Hwy-1 between Maneadero and Ensenada. Anyway, their market fell apart around eight years ago with the economy.

Udo.........we need to talk before you get involved with the trash pile you mentioned. That could turn into the worst purchase of your life.

And people are aghast at the prospect of living on rented land in Baja.
"Never invest more than you can afford to walk away from" is all you ever hear.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 01:10 PM

Thanks Lionel!
My current medical condition, although not as serious as it was, forces me to find a domicile closer to the border. More than likely, I'll have to make Scripps my home hospital in San Diego.

E-mail sent, DENNIS.

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 03:10 PM

This is the most solid lead I have gotten so far...I actually got to speak with a live person (albeit in Spanish). He actually was at the mobile home park evaluating other mobile homes to move. There are apparently over 800 mobile homes there.

Thanks, Ron!

BTW It is highly impolite for someone to get a referral from you (or anyone else for that matter) and not thank you or give you feed back for the referral.
Kind of like people on FB getting birthday wishes from their friends and only sending one thank you to the friend group. I got 168 birthday wishes last month and I took the time to thank everyone who sent me a birthday wish in an individual tank you.

de Anza Cove, right? 800 homes for sale and they have to move them all by February. That's about 30 per week. It's a buyer's market!

They should pay you to take it off their hands.

chuckie - 7-16-2015 at 03:42 PM

And move it.....

SFandH - 7-16-2015 at 04:03 PM

It could be a rare opportunity to pick up a manufactured home cheap if you have someplace to put it. It must be expensive to move them though, a lot of work to take it apart, move it, and put it back together. There are some big ones in de Anza Cove.

chuckie - 7-16-2015 at 04:47 PM

There is NO WAY that there is a positive ROI on this deal....Pay for disassembly haulage duties reassembly set up on a unit that is 11 years old? After it gets hauled it will be loosey goosey and stay that way.....And you have an 11 year old mobile home...RUN HIDE...Udo....buy good Tequila....

SFandH - 7-16-2015 at 05:23 PM

what chuckie said

Udo - 7-16-2015 at 05:54 PM

That is why I wanted to try and get an estimate for moving and set up before I write a check for the MH.

DENNIS - 7-16-2015 at 07:35 PM

These pro movers are experts on what they do, and the set-up crews are as well. I've watched them thread a needle backing these units into place, and they use rolling jacks to move them side to side.
