Aqua verde

:?:Am bringing my inflatable boat down in October, wanted to check out Aqua verde, I've heard so much about it, staying at villa del palmar south of loreto. Question is how far is the boat ride to Aqua verde from the hotel? I've read trailering down is not a good idea. driving a 4x4 truck, thanks

I dunno about the water transit time, but trailering in there is doable with a small trailer....I towed a 14' tin boat in there, but not since the recent catastrophes...Drove a big pickup with a 10' camper on it....

Is your question about towing your boat down the Auga Verde road, or down to Loreto from the border?

Both, I think boating to av from the hotel would be more fun and we could fish along the way, but not if its a three hour ride each way.

As the crow flies it is about 25-30 miles.

Pick your day carefully, it can be nice and calm in the morning and steep chop by the afternoon. How big is the inflatable? It will be a nice boat ride.

Done it a few times with a 14 ft Zodiac with a 25 HP outboard. From Escondido took little over an hour. If the wind comes up it will be a rough ride coming home.. But it's a nice outing and great when it's flat. Not much fishing wise on that stretch.

If you were going to camp at Agua Verde, I would not hesitate to take a well made trailer in there. But if you were going to drive in, launch and recover your boat, then drive back to Loreto the same day, I would rather cruise the shore.

Even if you decide to leave the boat at the hotel, you ought to take the ride in in your truck. Fantastic scenery!

Also, I know from personal experience that you would be better off towing that inflatable with the motor off the transom. Strap it down either in your truck, or over the axle in the boat.

Speaking of Agua Verde, this is my current desktop - the view from the top of the hill before you drop down to AV (my desktop changes with a photo I've taken every five minutes).

Maybe someone here can give you current road condition to AV.

I would probably try the sea route, but with these cautions:
As others have said, the chop can come up very fast and I would think an inflatable could become quite a wet ride. Whenever I would attempt a longer fishing trip out of Mulege in my Panga, or later, my aluminum 18 footer, I would throw a sleeping bag in and not hesitate to head for shelter and let the winds and the day pass. Plan to take the time to overnight, if necessary, rather than to try and make it back to Loreto. And don't forget to catch lots of fish! :bounce:

We were there last week. The road condition is very good and on our way back we saw road maintenance crew regrading the road. It rained pretty good the previous night (7/23) and it didn't seem to have an impact on the road condition. Good luck!

Ahhhh that's a good spot Umpqua!!

We found that place our first trip there via Kayak...found it next trip by truck but it was soooooo trashed from Semana Santa that we didnt stay and camp.. we moved on to the Puertito.. Love it there

Not familiar with Puertito but will have to check it out.

Too bad about the trash out at AV. This photo was from about 3 years ago and it was in good shape. There used to be a palapa there but it's now gone...unless someone rebuilt it.

Hope to spend a lot more time in Baja someday. I have about 8 more years in the salt mine and then it's sayonara. Or.....should I continue to work until I'm 70 so that I can max out my ss benefit? Oh.Hell.No.

If you want a leisurely, safe trip and are staying at the resort, I have a friend that lives in Encinada Blanca by the name of Samberto Castro. He has a new panga and takes people fishing, diving sight seeing etc. I have known him this past 8-9 years, very friendly and very honest. Just walk down the beach from the resort, into town (small) and at the store ask for him by name.......he and his family live right across the road.

Umpqua,

The puertito is the beach in front of the anchorage.. South of you about a mile plus..there is a tricky little four wheel low decline to get a truck down in there.. No prob for you're sweet Landy!
