Thanks again. I have taken Nikon's advice and registered as ukBarbara for the future but password going to home computer and I'm currently at work. I
am trying to soak up some of the wisdom & advice I've read in replies. As I mentioned, the next big item to arrange is renting and insuring a car in
San Diego. We are on a tight budget but equally don't want to take risks with transport. Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably priced rental
company in San Diego where insurance is secure? Sorry to be so full of questions but this long-distance palnning is quite stressing!

I hope others have more encouraging news about car rentals than I. All tourists who've shown up in a rental have told me the company prohibited Baja
travel, and they were there in contravention to the agreement. There must be companies who do, but expect to pay additional for what they perceive as
increased risk.
Whether that's true or not, the insurance that counts is what you will buy from a Mexican insurer. That will be done at an office of your choice after
crossing the border.

I think it would be easier to rent a car in Tijuana. I did a quick search, and came up with rates of $168 (National Car Rental) to $290/week. You
can easily get to the airport where all the major car rental companies are by taxi after crossing the border. The migra office where you'd get your
visas is in the same area where you walk across. You can get to the border or TJ airport by Greyhound bus ($7) from downtown San Diego, or take the
trolley ($2.50) from downtown SD to the border.
