2015 Perseid meteor shower

Chupacabra - 8-7-2015 at 09:09 AM

The 2015 Perseid meteor shower will be filling in over the next few days, with the peak being Aug. 11-14. This year there will be no moon at all to obscure the trails, and I can't think of a better place to watch than the deserts of Baja.

Here's the scoop:

Really been looking forward to this shower and the Leonidas shower in the fall. Oct Nov?? Hopefully we will get a couple nights without any marine layer here in Asuncion.

saw a few estrellas fogaz...shooting stars last night...the sky was crystal clear and the milky way was stunning! San Roque will be an outstanding place to watch the sky over the next few days!

Pretty cool to think that Earth is basically traveling thru space and into the remnants of a comet, creating these showers.

Too much coastal marine layer to see it here in San Diego.

But I was on Palomar Mountain this weekend and saw some big bright meteorites streaking across sky. Early arrivals?

I'm returning with friends to the mountain later this week to watch the full show.

Here's another good link for information on viewing the Perseids

We're going to Mt. Laguna tonight to view the show. I'm going to fiddle around with my camera and see if I can capture some images.

Here's some info if you want to try to photograph the meteor trails:

I'm planning on being in the Bahia Asuncion area next week, but that will be too late :(
