Bringing mini split into US from Mexico

vandenberg - 9-7-2015 at 12:23 PM

Last fall we bought several mini splits from Koppel.
We have an extra one we like to put in a rental in Sacramento.
Anyone knows what's involved getting it across the border?

just drive in...make sure to tell the guy that you have it
and what its for...tell him you live in loreto

ive driven in diesel and propane generators on trailers
inverters...batteries....all sorts of weird stuff

if tax is due it'll probably be California state tax

You can cross the mini splits, just declare it. I crossed 3 mini splits with no problems. You can cross up to $900 in merchandise, i think.

The feds charge state tax? Didn't know that.

Sales tax is not automatically charged but...
customs declarations are given to the state tax people and
the state tax people charge state taxes from the importer

many of those will void your home owners insurance, they don't meet U.S. standards. check first.
