Anyone taken grandkids without their parents to baja? I can get him a passport but was wondering about ownership papers since we have different last
names.

Don't forget to have their shot records and a health certificate....oh wait a minute, that was for my dog!
I will be watching this thread for experienced grand parent replies about any problems encountered. My grand children have my last name, but i can't
get their parents to push the paperwork for their passports!

It was 'normal' when taking other people's children across the border to get a notarized permission slip signed by BOTH parents granting you
permission to take them into Mexico (and authorize medical care).
We took school friends of my children camping to Shell Island more than a couple times.
That was the 'official' thing to do in the last decade and before. However, I was never asked to produce the document going into Mexico, and as a
single parent, I was never asked to produce one from my children's mother when it was just the two kids and I going to Baja.

Here's what happened to me in the mid 1990s in
Guyamas (sp):
I landed at the airport with my 6 year old son to visit my father. Was pulled into a room with my son and asked for the papers that his mother was OK
with me kidnapping our son to Mexico. 20 minutes of terror while my father could see thru the window. Finally, they let us go with stern warning.
After that, I got the notice in Spanish notarized by just about every gov'ment organization I could think of....never asked again.
YMMV Prolly a mainland issue?

Hola,
in 2006, i was camping out in the tent area at verdugo's in los barriles.
my son came to visit and we asked my daughter if kyle, my ten year old grandson could come and stay at verdugo's hotel with my son and i and fish and
hang out with the both of us.
my daughter and her husband agreed and drew up permission papers and had them notarized and booked his round trip flight on alaska airlines. they
escorted my grandson to the airport and had him escorted onto the plane and hovered over him.
after landing at the cabo airport, a flight attendant escorted him off the plane and took him through customs and brought him to the gate and asked me
for my identification, my passport and another photo I.D., my california driver's license and after confirming it was me according to some other
paperwork required by alaska airlines, they turned him over to me.
on his return trip, they once again asked for my I.D. and asked that i wait at the airport for twenty minutes after his flight left. once again, they
escorted him with two other young girls onto the plane.
my daughter called me upon his arrival at LAX.
my son, grandson and i had a GREAT time.
may i suggest you call or visit the mexican immigration in your area for EXACT clarification of what you will need.
BIEN SALUD, DA RAT
