OH NO, !!!! Another diesel question.

dirtbikr - 9-27-2015 at 12:22 PM

Am bringing a 100 gal tank in bed of my new diesel so I have more range, would there be a problem crossing into mex with a full auxillary tank or better just fill it in el Rosario?

100 gallons EXTRA fuel times 8 pounds a gallon = 800 pounds

wear on the tires
wear on the trans
wear on the engine
less power

i'd fill in el Rosario if you are scared of the southern diesel

Where are you planning on crossing? A lot of variables at Mexican customs. I cross routinely with 75 gallon tank and sometimes am warned that it can't be full. Just fill it and if questioned, use your verbal judo to explain that new truck needs it. Oh, and bottom line- a couple of tanks of Mexican diesel aren't going to be a big deal.
As you know, The weight isn't noticeable on a heavy pickup.
Good luck and happy travels

Last year with my new diesel, I took 30 gals and used it to dilute by about half, the few tanks [3] of southern Baja diesel that I used. Noticed no ill effects at all after, but I don't know how far that can be pushed.

it is low sulfur as opposed to ultra low sulfur diesel ( required by us diesels built after 2006).

car manufacturers have to meet smog requirements for they're entire fleet...

if the manufacturer told you regular diesel would work in your truck they would have to live with that smog number...not the UltraLow number

by telling you it wont work they have limited their use of diesel and liability

sulfur is a lubricant...regular fuel in Baja Sur will work just fine in your truck...

but...i'm just a simple retired "old guy" with some marketing in my background

:(I would like to go with knowledge and logic, butt am I wrong to worry bout a clogged exhaust, putting me in a limp mode which I remember some have said with Chevys could happen, also I am in warranty and some have said lsd voids the exhaust warranty, I must be a wuss, :fire:
