Three years ago I got wind of this car being on display at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Balboa Park, in San Diego.
Vochol, as it's named is the combination of Vocho, a term for beetle in Mexico, and Huichol the indigenous group found in Jalisco. Years ago I became
familiar with the beaded artwork of the Huichol and brought home a piece from Mexico.
This VW is covered in 2,277,000 beads applied with resin. Taking over 7 months to construct by eight artisans. You can read more about it in the
link below.
Here is an example of a more common Huichol art piece

From our Mexican travels, we have a few Huichol beaded bowls and one of their yarn art works --- all so very beautiful.
Thank you for posting the picture and information about this car---- what a major work ---- so much time and so beautiful.
Just as a side note --- it always amazed me when ever we crossed the border with indigenous art work of various kinds and the border officials just
wrote it off as crafts. At least it meant there was no duty. pauldavidmena - 11-11-2015 at 04:01 PM
Very cool, but what kind of gas mileage does it get?

gorgeous! admiring and collecting "traditional" items in many indigenous communities is one of the joys of travel, in Mexico and beyond. great way to
learn about history, culture, etc. (and have a reminder of the journey to display at home).StuckSucks - 11-12-2015 at 04:46 PM
