Outboard shipped to Mulege. Flawless!

CarlosAK - 11-16-2015 at 09:18 AM

I recently purchased a 115 Honda outboard in Bend OR and had it shipped to Mulege. I used a shipping/trucking outfit out of San Diego called Bill Hay International. I used a custom broker called ACV Logistics to get it across the border. They picked the motor up at a friends residence and delivered to the Pemex south of Mulege where we unloaded it. It went absolutely flawless. I was given updates on where the motor was while in transport. Very profesional. I felt the shipping cost was very reasonable at $775. Import fees and brokage fees are what they are depending on cost of the merchandise.
I just wanted to give a shout out to both of these organizations. They were a pleasure to work with. Went the extra mile to give me a good comfort level. If I was to do this again I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Can you share to us what those brokerage and import fees were?

Buying the same motor at Honda La Paz, would be half of the overall costs. And you got it right here where it is needed.

Purchased new Evinrude at Arjona in La Paz, 1984, then a new Yamaha in San Lucas in 2010 when the other one wore out, both less than half the cost if purchased stateside, (not to mention importation and transportation expense).
I would be curious to price a 115 HP Honda here in Mexico.

A new Yamaha 115 goes for the better part of $10,000.00 in the US......Hondas typically fetch more.

Are you saying a person can buy a new Honda 115 for $5000.00 in La Paz?

i'm just glad that someone had a good experience they were willing to share, not realizing it often turns into something around here where someone else has done it faster, better, cheaper and more often than the OP.

like they say, YMMV....

When the Mexican Gov't bumped the IVA to a swell 16% it sometimes helps in the decision on making large purchases here or back in the ole U.S.of A. Love to help the local economy but this always seemed to be a tad over the top...
The tax is also added to electric, phone/internet as well as the good old Fideicomiso the bank trust payment... so who gets all that mula?????

oh well some stuff is still peanuts in cost...for now....

ncampion - 11-16-2015 at 05:36 PM

You didn't mention if this was a used motor or brand new?

Tioloco - 11-16-2015 at 09:49 PM

Carlos, as long as you are pleased with the deal then it is a good deal. All relative, right? Glad it worked out and you are back on the water.

The purpose of the original post was to let people know that there were a couple of outfits that were willing to go the extra mile and give a reasonable comfort level when shipping across the border. Didn't know I needed to defend my actions. The motor is a used 115 Honda. It has 70 hours on it. The original owner upgraded to a larger motor. I paid $6000 for it which is about half the price of a new one in the US. Import was 16%. Broker fee was a couple hundred. The motor was bought from and serviced by a reputable dealer. I still stand by my decision and would do again.

Carlos,
Sounds like a very good deal, thanks for sharing your positive experience. Sorry to come off sounding like a jerk.

I too was trying to make the point that at times, with certain items, it also pays to shop here. That was my positive experience I wanted to share.

I will choose words more carefully next time, my apologies......
