Early departure from Los Cabos in January

pauldavidmena - 11-23-2015 at 04:36 PM

The good news: we are visiting Baja - specifically Todos Santos - in January. The bad news: we'll only be there for a week, and our departure from the airport in Los Cabos is at 7:05 a.m. Assuming that we want to get to the airport at least an hour before departure, we'd need to leave El Pescadero around 5:00 a.m. My question is this: is it likely to be so dark at 5 that we'd be ill-advised to drive, and to instead spend a night in Cabo? Alternatively, we could try to move our departure time, but we already know that we don't have much leeway flying all the way to Boston in a single day.

I would' worry about the early drive, it's a four lane divided highway until the airport road. The new Cabo bypass makes it a quick trip from Pescadero.

I would head over early the day before departure and get a room at the Palmilla and chill by the infinity pool, get a massage and a mani-pedi or facial then have a nice dinner and get up refreshed and head to airport. :saint:

Sounds like a great idea. What should one budget for that splurge?

I might go back to Delta to see if I can get a slightly later flight. Last year a cup of coffee and a pastry at Baja Beans just before a flight was the perfect send-off.

A later flight is ideal esp. with something from Beans.

I drive this stretch of road couple times a week (from Pescadero to Migrino) in the dark early a.m. and it's not been a problem. It's dark, no lights, and it's possible there will be a cow or goat in the road. I'd stay in the left lane, brights on, watch your driving. Not a problem.

Here's an update: we booked a flight that leaves Cabo at 1:13 PM instead of 7:05 AM. The down side is that we get into Boston close to midnight, but at least we don't have to make the drive to the airport before the cows go home. Alternatively, the prospect of leaving Pescadero - and the Music Festival - a day early to spend the night in Cabo was tough to swallow. I discovered that Delta charges a hefty change fee, but we gain 6 hours in Pescadero and the knowledge that we can watch the entire finale of the Todos Santos Music Festival. I'll take that trade-off any day.
