1 meter portable satellite dish

turtleandtoad - 1-20-2005 at 08:05 PM

I've been told that once I get about 200 miles into Baja I will need at least a 1 meter dish to get Dish Network.
Does anyone know where I can by a portable dish of this size?
Are they available in Baja? and if so, are they cheaper than the US?
I am heading for Cabo and expect to be knocking about in Baja for about 2 months so need something easy to set up and store.

try this in Baja

Fish, hike, walk, beach comb, catch snakes....so why ya want a T.V.?! It's Baja.

You got to have something to do after dark, and since I'm single and don't frequent bars, that leaves books and TV.

Plus I'm addicted to CNN

It's ok, you're allowed to watch TV in Baja. Check out http://www.winegard.com . If you are going all the way to the tip, you WILL need a larger dish. In BCN, a regular size will do.

I confess!

yankeeirishman - 1-21-2005 at 05:36 PM

Yeah, yeah.... I confess that there's a Portable DVD or Xbox blasting away in our Rover during the long travels. I never watch the DVD movies while I am driving, I prefer playing the Xbox as we cruise!

Hey Yankeeirishman;
considering what I've heard about the width of the highways down there, I hope you're not looking at anything but the road while driving!!

And I plan on doing all that other stuff, plus more when I get there. But I'll leave the snake catching to you. I'm not afraid of catching them but don't know what to do with them after I catch them. :o

"it's a great gift"

Oh, them snakes are great for the Mother in Law to play with.

Sat. dish in Baja

Phil S - 1-21-2005 at 09:52 PM

I bought a 1 meter in the states last year & brought down to Loreto. Couldn't raise Dish 500 with it. Been told I need something larger. Geezzzz!!!! In LaPaz prior to that time, I priced 1 meters & was told it would be $395.00 u.s. I passed. Paid $150.00 from Sat. store in Oregon. Check with any sat. installation where you are going & you shouldn't have any trouble finding one. Will just have to deal with the price. Good luck, and let us know what you ended up doing.

Phil S,
If I understand you correctly, a 1 meter dish will NOT be big enough in Cabo? I'm trying to get the Dish 119W satellite.

Does anyone know just how big I have to go?:?:

Phil S - 1-22-2005 at 08:30 PM

t&t. It didn't work for us. Ask around. Must be some people living in Cabo or S.J. del Cabo who could respond to this request. However, the l meter dish did work for us from a friend who loaned us their signal & receiver on Direct t.v.

I have a 2 meter dish that can get anything

Thanks Pompano
Go anead and put that 42 up for sale, if you still have it and I haven't found anything else by Feb 7th I'll buy it and pick it up on my way through.

In the meantime I'll continue to try to find out just how big a Cabo dish has to be.

I think I'll give Dish Network a call and see what they say.

We have the 48" dish here in Los Barriles and it works great except when we get reall heavy cloud cover which happens rarely. We paid about $300
