They had traveled length of the Baja peninsula before taking the ferry to the mainland. Sad indeed. Info has been on Talk Baja for a couple of weeks now.

It certainly is tragic for those tourists involved and their families as well, this MUST be a wake up call for all who travel in any country.

The rest of mainland Mexico is absolutely NOT like Baja, here we have the liberty that safety up to a point allows us travel along the peninsula, but there are some states in the mainland that are absolutely forbidden from doing so, such is the case with Sinaloa, Michoacan, Tamaulipas and some other states that I certainly wouldn't try to do any adventure traveling any longer... thirty years ago it still was safe to do so... not today

We still don't know what happened, they were apparently parked at night on a dirt road, the camper may have malfunctioned and the propane tank exploded. There is no evidence of foul play or gunshots reported as yet though anything is possible. Be careful out there.

Yes --- I don't think they know what happened as of yet. One of the girlfriends is headed down to Mexico to try and find some answers.
