Interesting site-Onyx maybe

TMW - 12-4-2015 at 10:08 AM

Was looking around on GE and saw this. It looks like an Onyx field similar to the one at Gonzaga Bay. It is close to where we camped the second night on the PLR and rebuilt the road up out of the wash.

A closer look.

It appears to be about 300 feet in diameter. There is a road closer to the site but I could not make out one near the arroyo.

It could be a mini dry lake? The soda spring/ onyx glacier behind Rancho Grande is quite white...

In either case, just another great reason to go explore Baja!

I have driven there
it's a Llano - like a small dry lake bed

Oh, it's onyx alright! Just below this 'glacier' are chunks of onyx like at El Marmol and El Volcan

Chris in 2002 at the onyx glacier (soda springs) with Gonzaga Bay in the background.

The photo above this one is Chris photographing me, and it shows how big this is.

how productive is the spring?

It drips... has puddles... wet zone, but highly mineralized so no palms or even salt reeds like in Calamajué Canyon.
