What are the temps like in Baja Sur?

Whale-ista - 12-5-2015 at 09:58 PM

Cuz it's definitely not cooling off on the mainland: Guadalajara reports 20° C, Zapopan 22° C, Tlaquepaque 19° C and Puerto Vallarta 27° C.

Sunday @ 0645 - 18 degrees
Has been as low as 16 in the A.M.

Mid 20s in the day.

VERY windy

windgrrl - 12-6-2015 at 07:24 AM

Cabo del Este: Warm and windy, warm water, great windsurfing conditions. Daily highs in the high 20s, lows in the high teens. "mega" El Niño prognostications emerging.

If those temps around 20 are daytime highs, then it's definitely cooled off. Those are only about 68-72F. Nothing warm about that.

PV is never going to cool off much with the ocean staying so warm.

El Pescadero has cooled off in the past week to high 70s low 80s. Prior, and for weeks, it was high 80s and enough bobos to drive the average nomad crazy. Water 75 and refreshing. Catching torro's and roosters at Lobos and Pedrito which I throw back. Saw a good size mahi jump out of the water in front of Rancho Pescadero while fishing from the sand.

Big unmakable waves today.

monoloco - 12-6-2015 at 12:02 PM

85º at 12:00 pm in Pescadero.

We've had low to mid 80s, ever since the clouds of earlier this week disappeared.

I am a little less than a mile from the water and there are mountain canyons behind San Carlos that DO trap cold air at night. This cool air will descend to the ocean in the wee hours of morning. We've already had three nights in the upper 40s (least was 47.5F) but that was about a week ago.

This "winter" has started out much cooler than the last two, which were very warm winters for us. We've already had probably 8-10 nights in the low-mid 50s. But each day manages to get in the 80s. In fact, usually by about 0930, it's in the low 70s.

I'm happy to see overnight lows in the 50s. Much better for my cool weather crops, especially the leafys, so they don't bolt so fast.

I dont know the exact temps but here in the mmiddle of Baja -la bocana- on the Pacific it has been really cold at night and quite comfortable during the day with a light breeze all afternoon.

Yesterday, crossing the hill in the late afternoon Insurgentes/Loreto it was 90 - 91 most of the way, and in the low 80s in Loreto around sun down.

If you're serious, you're the first person I've ever heard of in La Paz that has heat in his home. :wow:

How are you powering it?

I think you're getting your chain yanked. Perfect winter weather here in LP. Daytime around 25-27 and cool comfy breezes. Nite is perfect sleeping temps.

Regards
Keith

4x4abc - 12-7-2015 at 06:40 PM

no chain yanking involved

tile floor at 80 degrees while working on the computer at night is delightful
November to March
floor in the shower - 90 F

pex tubes under the tiles connected to low cost solar water heaters (black garden water lines) and a pump is all you need

I have had this in all my houses in a couple of different countries
heck, the Romans had it already - why shouldn't we?

love it as much as the heated seats in my car

I'll post pictures later tonight

It was a glorious summer like day here in Bahia Asuncion today, air temps mid 80's and felt like 90 as there was no wind! I just got back from Ensenada where I froze my petuties off...dang it is freezing there..no thanks!!!!! I had to peel off a bunch of layers as I got closer to Asuncion and was hot in a tank top, shorts and flip flops...unlike Ensenada where I was cold with 2 sweaters, a coat, a beanie, pants and boots!!!!! Good think the food and company was great!

Agreed- Ensenada feels cold and damp this time of year. Even when in the 60s, feels colder when the fog comes in.

Once you get past El Rosario, and esp when you pass the "hook" at Vizcaino, the situation changes nicely.

Except for PV, those temps are nothing warm. 19C=66F, 22C=72F.

wow, amazing here on the central pacific side of Baja is alot warmer than Puerto Vallarta!!! Still up in the 80's in the daytime here...in DECEMBER!!! lovin it!

It is so hard when people ask what the weather is like in December as it can be like summer or chilly willy...ya just never know.

daveB - 12-10-2015 at 09:21 PM

We spent several winters 200 km south of PV, getting there as early as second week in November. Hot! Water temp 85F. It cooled off though, usually under a couple of cloudy days just after New Years, the only cloud we usually encountered there, what a climate! called the Costa Allegre. By the time we left, no later than the first week of March, it was getting stiffling hot, but the water temp by then was about 75F. and the sting rays had come in. So then we were heading for cooler areas up in the mountains. Early trips to BCS, always in January/February, were sometimes cold. No swimming for us. Loved the sunshine, but the wind kept jackets on unless you could escape it somehow. Loved the hiking. Wet and windy in south coastal British Columbia for us right at this time, our first winter here in 14 years.

This summer and fall were hotter than usual, at least in Baja. No comparison to earlier years. I don't know whether it's because of climate change or because of mega-elnino (or why the heck it had to be "mega"), but it was hot, hot, hot. Cooled down only in November. Definitely no jackets were needed until the end of November (and in October you could hardly even put a T-shirt on). This is - in Baja. So, in Baja Sur it must've been hotter yet. Now - don't know, had to go NOB.

Loreto weather

Howard - 12-11-2015 at 12:37 PM

75 degrees at noon today

61 at 7:00 this morning

Yesterday water temps 73.5 on the inside and was told it was 75 on the outside

rts551 - 12-11-2015 at 03:57 PM

The cool down is here. Cool and cloudy through the New Year.

CAbo in high 70's/low 80's. Bahia Asuncion the high 60's/low 70's.

OP - This site could've saved you asking.

Click on the area -> Closest station -> More -> Archives -> Air Temperature -> Date

I found it to be pretty accurate, at least for my area.

chilly willy here in Asuncion this morning...cold front moved in blasting 30 knots of wind in the wee hours of the morning...the swell is building into a magnificent sight...supposed to be around 14'!!!

tiotomasbcs - 12-12-2015 at 12:06 PM

This morning was cloudy and looking like rain. Windy last nite and now at noon it's blowing whitecaps. Hold onto your sombrero and take in the laundry Shari! Tio

In 2013 we drove down to San Felipe for a month then over to Rocky Point for a couple of weeks for January into February. Loved being back in Mexico again after three years away. The weather was about what we got in southern California and south western Arizona. We found happy hours were sometimes windy, more so than where we had been staying in the north. Have heard that Baja can be extremely nice and warm, not too hot, but just at the right time on the calendar.

shari - 12-12-2015 at 03:29 PM

prolly blowin about 25 today here in Asuncion and a big swell...looks about 12'...laundry will have to wait till manana! saludos tio
