4. have a stiff drink (or a big smoke) before posting or reading replies...will ease your nerves...:wow:

-Expect to wade through 20 posts

Hook - 1-21-2005 at 10:40 PM

that are only marginally about Baja.

-Expect to be deemed a P-nche cabron, responsible for every malady on the peninsula, if you admit to being Canadian.

-Expect to have someone redirect you to a spell checker for a typo you made.

-Expect David K to plug his website even if you are asking where the best paletas in San Quintin are? (of course, it will be the best damn guide info and pics you could find anywhere.....it really will be!)

-Expect to search long and hard for better info on any other Baja site.

No the facts ?

MrBillM - 1-21-2005 at 10:58 PM

Would that be as opposed to "yes" the facts ?

I guess that No. 2 (spell check) wouldn't have
helped.

Just kidding.

Baja Spellchecker

Mike Humfreville - 1-22-2005 at 03:23 AM

Accept the fact that we're all unique but fit as contributors and join in with enthusiasm. We can each post in our own style and add to the warmth we have for this board.

And---Baja Spellchecker: stuff it with your superior attitude. Retire yourself Amigo, only from this self imposed obnoxious obligation to tell others when they're incorrect.

I know your direction is well intentioned, but some of the best stuff we read here isn't focused on spelling. Spelling is a thing we learn in grade school. But it doesn't matter when someone is not a spellmaster and has a valid point.

The personal feelings, the integrations, the merging and interactions and loves; they don't need to be spelled correctly. They just need to be expressed.

Have you ever considered that your need for conciseness (perhaps a need to attempt superiority???) that may have stifled others writing that we may have appreciated reading? There is no reason here to demonstrate superiority. We all just love Baja.

rite on an engourge baad speeling.

Pque it out.

I would encourage us to just write with our hearts and if we don't know the exact alphabetical arrangement of every letter in a word, just put your heart there, think what your really mean, what your issue is, where your hurt is, write like you feel; screw the spelling. Well figure it out, close or afar, that everything in your words is meaningful, what's to care for.

While I appreciate where you are coming from and run my own longer posts through a checking mechanism because I want to be read, I frequently read unedited posts with many misspelled words, read the reasons for the issues, and find greater meanings because of the causes of the misspellings. The issue has the import. Who cares otherwise?

Perhaps because you criticize spelling you stifle creativity?

'Baja Spell Checker'

David K - 1-22-2005 at 10:17 AM

Is often more than one person, but the person I know who takes that job does it ONLY for Baja place names (not English words) and to educate about Baja California. Never to put down anyone.

For example, on Fred's board San Jose del Cabo was called San Juan del Cabo by someone... and Baja Spell Checker just reminded or educated the person the correct name.
Usually it is for the most misspelled places in Baja, like Los Barriles, Guerrero Negro, Alfonsina's and Puertecitos! Afterall don't we often come to the Internet to learn things?

Spell Check

Paulina - 1-22-2005 at 01:46 PM

I feel that using Spell Check would greatly lessen the entertainment value we get from reading this board. It is because of this board that we've developed our own version of Phonetic Scrabble, a fun game played by all ages. We have a list at work on our "Wall of Shame" of high scoring words. We also find it amusing to try to form sentences from words used on any particular game board. For example:

" Allmost allways durring the holliday I like to take my familly out at knight on my Bosten Whaler hunting for goast shrimp. We can spend houres on the water as long as I have beers to through down. Allso I make sure to keep an eye out for hurricans comeing on Wensdays and Saterdays. I have to make shure to watch the bottem comeing in so I don't heavilly hurt the moter."

See, it's fun and easy and couldn't be done without this board, or with the use of Spell check.

Please don't take offense, this post is made in good humor. Borrowing this phrase from another poster, my tung is firmly planted in the side of my cheak.

<*)))><:saint:

Bruce R Leech - 1-23-2005 at 10:00 AM

you should try to market that game

bajalera - 1-25-2005 at 12:11 PM

I agree with Mike H.--when it comes to posting on this board, spelling really isn't important, and worrying about it serves only to put a damper on enthusiasm and creativity. The standards commonly applied to printed material (which have kept me employed as an editor for more years than I care to count) don't have any relevance in the casual exchange of ideas, opinions and whatever that makes this board interesting to bajaficionados.

Shove the Spel-Czech!

That was classic Mexitron! Better yet, don't ever TELL about the seven sisters, or you might get into trouble with the Sacred Society of the Secret Spots.

Oh, and about this whole "before you post" thing; there's nothing to do before you post.... JUST POST.

Me No - 1-25-2005 at 02:30 PM

JR, I made a 1 day trip last weekend to check on a mountain top I am buying. I can't decide weather to build a nice 20 unit development out of concret, with satalite TV. Or, an artist colony made out of Bamboo, that relys on solar and wind power for the creature comforts.
