Americans Deported from Mexico

Never heard of any Nomads being deported, but apparently plenty of other Americans are.

It's the traveler's responsibility to know what they need to be legal and to have it all in order. If you're a Mexican who gets caught driving while illegal in Arizona they drop you right off at the Morley Gate and give you a little nudge southwards, so there's absolutely no reason Mexico shouldn't deport Americans who are there illegally.

Before I married my Canadian wife she traversed the US on her way to her home herein Punta Banda twice a year for more than 15 years with just her passport which was totally legal because of the recipical agreement before the two countries. However once she married me, an American citizen, she was deported back to Canada because she didn't have a US Visa.

The only way she could get back to Mexico was to take a non-stop flight to Mexico City and a shuttle flight to TJ where I picked her up and she was banned from entering the US until she had the correct paperwork. She applied for a US permanent Resident card and that was a long drawn out process:
1) establish a US residence even though she was banned from entering the US (rented a room in San Diego)
2) submit application to US Consulate in Juarez (the only place they process the paper work for west coast residents)
3) Two years later receive notice of health inspection and interview in Juarez.
4) Health inspection at only US accepted clinic in Juarez took a whole day so in addition to $100 fee and round trip airfare to get there had to pay for hotel and cab fare
5) After waiting in line for 6 hours she went to interview and at end she was told her application was rejected because she did not proviude proof that her and I were in a "SEXUAL relationship rather than a marriage of conveince. The interview could not define what kind of proof they need and she asked if they wanted photographic proof and was told "That would help".
6) got an appointment for second interview about 6 months later and this time they accepted the proof but they could not give her the Temporary Resident card in person and had to stay overnight again to pick it up at the DHL office the next day.
7) Then had to walk across toll bridge into the US Immigration office in El Paso and wait in line 4 hours to get it stamped and spend the night in El paso before getting flight back to San Diego where I picked her up.
8) Total time/ cost involved = 2 years and $3000.

Mexico has a wall at it's southern border. That wall wears boots and carries a gun.

I don't think there too many Americans deported from Mexico, at least not close to the numbers of Mexicans being deported from the US. However, I believe there are quit a few Americans that have unofficially run out of Mexico on a rail.

Nancy Conroy, who used to run the Northern edition of the " Gringo Gazette,"
was one such person that comes to mind, and was ran out of Rosarito, on a rail, under threats of costly libel lawsuits against her, which could have included jail time if she lost. She would have then been deported out of Mexico. It's no wonder why she packed her bags, and headed back to the USA.

I would have liked to see, Maggie Madness, when she was active, to also be ran out of Mexico on a rail, but I think Maggie, learned from the mistakes of Nancy Conroy, and took a low profile of only blogging, just negative stories about Baja. It also appears that Maggie, is posting under an alias name, because there is no ex-pat that has actually met Maggie, face to face, under her Marjorie/Maggie name she uses, and no, claims some 3rd party knowing her doesn't really count.

We also had some "Baja Nomad" members pretty much ran out of Mexico on a rail, including known members from places like Muluge.

Yep, immigration control is what is being asked for....and as some folks want a wall between Canada and USA, border crossings are just getting fussier....

one of the side articles is a slide show about Mexicans going for guiness book of world records - largest meatballs and most astronomers look at the sky at the same time and most mariachis playing instruments at the same time. very interesting.

and talking about deportations- a couple years ago the immigration authorities from Santa Rosalia used to pay all foreigners a visit here in la Bocana and they would check all our paperwork. They haven't done it in quite a while.

I love it when I meet folks who, you know, have to have some sort of messy problem back in the USA.

I met an older chap down in GB next to Alfonsinas. This 70sh yo guy hadn't been back to the states in 30 years.

I wish I could get them to open up, sounds like a great book project.

Another arrest/deportation in Ensenada a couple of days ago. State Police and INM bagged a wanted pedophile (Michael James Larrieu) from New Orleans. Should have been sent north feet first.

Chuck the evangelist in Agua Verde got a free ride to the border twenty-five some years ago. I think he might have committed the ultimate sin of getting tangled up in local politics.

About 10 years ago I did a last minute yacht movement San Diego to Cabo - grabbed my passport and clothes and off I went.

Went to the SJD airport to buy a ticket back and was detained and taken to an interview room - the officers were efficient but didn't take kindly to my joke about illegal Americans in Mexico...

I was documented and taken to the FMM office and I was escorted back to the ticket counter and got my ticket home.

Way back in the day (before our time and we have been here 15 years), a Chinese immigrant to La Bocana who was a businessman was escorted to the border. I cannot remember what he did to pee people off, but they took his house from him and sent him packing.

I have a now long dead Uncle who got "deported" by Poncho Villa!

He owned a vegetable farm several miles below the border and one night his employees came a told him Poncho was coming to kill him. He put on some clothes and boots, grabbed his pistola and started to run cross country for the border. He made it, without being caught. He never went back.

He turned out to be a pretty good oil painter years later in the Palm Springs area in the 1950s
