First of all welcome to Nomads, Mr. Kent.
Most every person who visits this forum asks the same question...therefore it has been answered few hundred times. Please take the time and use the
search function for each portion of your (question).
There is diesel available in all major towns and minor ones as well throughout Baja.
Good food is a matter of preference and tastes. Stop at the fish market in Ensenada (google it) for fish tacos.
Stop at Jardines hotel in San Quintin for your first night.
Stop at Mama Espinoza's in El Rosario for crab soup.
Stop at Mario's restaurant just before Guerrero Negro.
Stay the night in San Quintin, probably at Ignacio Inn B&B. Your next stop can easily be made to La Paz.
In La Paz stay at Tuscany Inn B&B (google it)
One question...have you been to Baja before?
The road from La Paz-Todos Santos is mostly four lane.
Sunday is the best day to travel because of no truck traffic. Other than that, it makes no difference which day you travel. When you get behind a
truck or bus on mountain grades, just grin and bear it.
Again, do you research in this forum's search function and draw your own conclusions. Don't expect everyone to answer you at the drop of a hat when

gkentphoto, please know most people on Nomad do not live in Baja but instead come here to connect with Baja and Baja people when they are not in Baja.
Most of us who post try and help. A few here are more interested in drama... it is The Internet, after all!
The best answers will come from people who just traveled or did the things you seek answers to, and recorded or memorized the data. That would be

Maybe I will have a crack at this, in light nobody else is (so far)?:
1) Pemex stations are where you find diesel fuel. They are in every town, but a 200 mile gap exists after EL ROSARIO. So, top off the fuel tank at the
Pemex there. (It is as you enter town, coming down the hill). Diesel pumps are in BACK or to the side of most stations that sell diesel.
2) Good food depends on your taste or need for atmosphere. In the more remote section of central Baja, the best food might come from taco stands.
There is a restaurant review forum I suggest you read here on Nomad. We are talking about a 1,000 mile road trip. To name all the good places would be
quite a chore.
3) Safe Motels: Almost the same answer as above (see Baja Accommodations Review forum). I will suggest #1 stop at Baja Cactus Motel, El Rosario (225
miles from the border). Another good, inexpensive motel is the La Huerta in San Ignacio (a block past the mission/ town plaza, 2 miles south of Hwy.
1). San Ignacio is another 300 miles, from El Rosario. That puts you halfway to Todos Santos..
4) See Road Conditions forum here. Roads are fine until a flash flood washes a bridge or vado (dip) out. You may be delayed 1-2 days for a detour to
be made or the water level to drop.
5) I have no idea what the "Desert Road" is you speak of? The highway to Todos Santos from La Paz is 4 lanes!
6) Both have traffic in the towns on all days. The worse section will be Ensenada to San Quintin, for traffic with all the farm towns you pass
through.
7) Start your trip whenever, but allow a minimum of three days to do the drive, more days will be more pleasurable for you to not feel rushed, see the
sites, enjoy the country.
OH, and you do understand there may be NO ULSD diesel in the southern half of Baja? This is an issue for some folks who have newer diesels that
require the 'Ultra Low' (Ultra Bajo Azufre) vs. the 'Low' (Bajo Azufre) sulfur fuel.

I think we both came close to the information that Kent requested.
If he used the search function on this forum, (you know as well as I do) that he'll find a more expanded thread to the questions he is asking.
And I'll also go along with Hook's sentiments.

I just got back from LA Bay. There's 1 Pemex that has diesel there. However, the only diesel to be found in Gonzaga is across the hwy from
the Pemex station at the market / store. However, they will only sell 25 liters. It's provided from 2 LARGE white fuel tanks.
As a side note, I found the diesel not up to standard as I got poor (20% less) mileage until I was able to by some injector cleaner (Seafoam) back
across the border.
Consider taking an extra (1 or 2) fuel filter with you, as well as fuel injector cleaner.
My Jeep is an '05 Liberty CRD and can handle low sulfur fuel as apposed to ULTRA low.
edit: yes, I know he's not heading south via this route, but thought it might be helpful to others.

Diesel is also sold (or was) from the independent gasoline vendors at Cataviņa and Parador Punta Prieta (L.A. Bay Jcn.). IF you fill up in El Rosario,
you should have no problem getting 200+ miles to the next Pemex station, however.
On Hwy. 5 southbound: Top your diesel tank in San Felipe and you won't need to worry about diesel at Gonzaga Bay, as that is only 100 miles south. The
L.A. Bay Jcn. is the next place to get diesel from a non-Pemex vendor (they are building a new gas station there).
