yes

Forgive me, but I personally find this post confusing. Heading North by way of Todos Santos from SJD?

I know. The cutoff road saves time for those coming "down from TS".

But, when all is said and done, SJD and Todos antos are almost on the same Parallel. Obviously, no one in Mexico was willing to spend the Pesos to actually build a new road through the mountains between SJD and TS. Not like the road from Guadalajara to PV or Manzanillo or from Acapulco to Mexico City.

Heading North by way of Todos as opposed to North by way of Los Barriles, San Bartolo etc.....or in other words North by way of Mex. 19 not Mex. 1.........final destination being north of La Paz!!
Cheers, roger

4 lane vs 2 lane mountain road. Easy choice if you are in a hurry.

Yes it is open
Costs about 80 pesos
They say it cuts 20-30 minutes off the trip

But, once again, I have to ask why did not the government build a road through the mountains? They have done that elsewhere repeatedly.

As a child, I traveled to Manzanillo with my family in 1957 and 1959, and on my own in the 60's. There was no coastal highway, the road in through the mountains was the only road!

In 1965 I was not able to get to Puerto Vallarta because of high water at one river crossing. Trucks and buses were going through, but we did not feel good about crossing in a 56 Chevy Belair.

B/C the private hand financed most of the new road. To reduce traffic and >>noise off the corridor. Most of those hotels along the corridor are involved.
