conditions from San Felipe south

bart6 - 1-7-2016 at 09:14 AM

I made the drive from Mexicalli to LA Bay yesterday, and the road, and weather were beautiful. The dirt part was in better shape than when I went north in mid December, although the last few miles thru Lake chapalla were muddy, it caused us no problems. Watch your satellite photos, as I did.

Thanks for this report. Many driving south this winter may want to take this route to avoid the quagmire along the Pacific side. Doing so about the only thing I miss these days is that pretty stretch through Catavina.

Any signs of gas station construction yet (other than sign & fence) at LAGUNA CHAPALA or L.A. BAY JCN. ?

Thank you!

flash floods

With storms coming in from the Pacific, it is possible that enough rain could fall on the east side of the peninsula divide to cause flash floods miles downstream from any significant rainfall.

I think it is unlikely to be a factor with highway traffic, but it could be a major problem for access to camping on some beaches or arroyos.
