Stolen wallet...lost PR card

Anyone know what the procedure is for replacing a stolen ( yes, have police report if needed) PR card?

I carry a copy (laminated) instead of the original.

The place to start is the Agencia del Ministerio Publico and nowhere else. They take down your statement and give you a copy of the report. That report you use to let everyone know.

I carry a copy of everything. DL...passport card...SENTRI...everything.
Cop wants to hold my DL for ransom........ I tell him to keep it. I have fifty more just like it.
I do however write Copy/Copia on both sides of the cards. Small, but legible.

Assuming you're in Loreto, it would have to wait until Monday morning when they open. Who you can talk to in the mean time and could even help since they are the ones assigned the cases, are the Policia Ministerial and they are always open, I just called them at (613) 135-2309, same place as the Ministerio Publico, on Juarez and Davis

as noted in the original post, a police report has been filed already.
the person involved, a friend, has asked INM locally and was told that she must apply again, and pay full fee.
am asking as information/procedure often varies from one INM office to the next.
has anyone had first hand experience with replacing a card.

I lost my RT card and checked into replacing it and it was the same; start all over, pay full fees, including initiating it in the States.

For those of you using COPIES to carry around, we had INM do a spot check at our house because my wife works down here. All in order with her. We discussed my lost card situation with him and he told us the procedure. He also told us to NEVER allow an INM agent know you have made a copy of your card/visa. Big trouble, according to him.

I have since gone back to the FMMs. The RT/RP is not worth it to me. FMMs are too simple. And I've heard the new permanentes DO have a 10 year expiration date; not open-ended.

Hook: I wonder how many of us with PermRes will do the same? Especially the casual visitor/vacationer. The issue of what you need in order to lease a house and keep stuff (boats, RVs, ATV, etc) in Mexico has NEVER been explained to me in a manner that I felt comfortable relying on.

Most over here make the decision when they have to decide whether to move on from RT to RP. Many are not, but we have the added disincentive of the vehicle permit for areas south of us.

First hand knowledge here....I lost mine a few years back...Went to the Ministerio Publico in Rosarito, they filled out a short report and gave me a copy. My card had expired during the period between the loss and the report. I had to pay for a new one....I used an agent that I had used for years....No problem at all...I did not have to do anything other than being re-photoed and fingerprinted......

If there is a expiration, I"ll be turning my RP in. Back when, it seemed like a good idea to have as I planned to be in Baja full time, and owned property. The hoops I jumped through for 5 years was a hassle and, looking back, wasn't worth it.

How is it not worth having a RT/RP if you already have one? While FMM's are simple, applying for one after a 180 day expiration takes more effort than having a RP.

Applying for a new FMM is not hard when you live about 4.5 hours from where you can get a new one. I am generally going NOB about 2-3 times every year; the summer trip to avoid heat, humidity; the annual spring training trip to AZ in March. It wasnt a hard decision. The RP is expensive and you must import your vehicle or buy a Mexican vehicle if you want to drive south of the free zone on the mainland.

My situation is a bit different than someone on the Peninsula.

There is a procedure to get a duplicate for 1000 pesos. The procedure and forms are on the INM web site. You may have to pressure the agent with the info printed off the web site. There is also a process for a denuncia (complaint) if you have a problem.

I bet you can get an attorney to help you with the replacement. with a little luck, maybe the stolen one will show up.
