Painting Location - Do you have idea?

tim40 - 1-24-2005 at 10:02 AM

The attached image is from an Ebay auction that I have x degree of interest in. There are several attributes of the painting that suggests it is from the early 1900's. Does anyone have any ideas as to where the subject location is?

The title is italian and essentially the "Gulf of Baja"

Nice picture - I'll be waiting to see where the nomads place it.

Maybe it's the Gulf of Orosei off Sardinia. Or the Gulf of Cagliari. There are other gulfs as well, some referred to as southern ("baja"). The large ship in the bay may suggest Italian origins, and the green foliage would be an anomaly in desert Baja environs. ???

The vegetation throws me for a loop as well. If it's the Gulf of California, perhaps on the mainland side?

The folage has me off as well. If I squint enough though I can almost see this being Ensenada Bay captured from the vantage point of La Bufadora (is that even close to the correct spelling) from around that time period. What throws me is the highest of the mountains in the background....I can't think of any coastal location in the gulf that fits that.

Maybe it was done w/the artist's imagination adding touches. Possible the volcanic cones of San Quintin? Shows you what I know.

Looks like the Meditteranean to me....the trees look like skinny Italian Stone Pines, shape wise.

Santa Rosalia?

Without the foliage or the white building makes me think of Ensenada bay.:tumble:::bounce:k

I'll weigh in with my guess.

Golfo di Baja in Sardinia.

You all have convinced me...I too now believe it is of Italian origin.
