Loreto to San Quintin -one day

Is it doable. Hauling our 20' Grady to SD with our F 250. Loreto to San Quintin first day ? Is it doable. Sunset that time of year is approx 7pm

Insight appreciated.

FWIW.....takes me 10 hours without a trailer.
Burritos to go in San Ignacio, fuel in Vizciano and El Rosario.

Imminently doable. I've made the trip a number of times towing a Bluewater with a Tundra. With an early start you can easily be in San Quintin with daylight to spare. Most recently I've spent the night at Villas de San Quintin Which is on the highway in SQ and has plenty of parking for a boat/trailer.

Takes me about 10 1/2 hours from Santispac to San Quintin pulling a 19' travel trailer. Add about an hour or so for Loreto. Just start at dawn and don't take a long lunch break, you'll be fine.

I schedule for between 9 and 10 hours for that trip, but with a sedan. Don't forget that you gain an hour at GN by the different time zone. You'll have lots of time to get there before you run out of daylight.

Loreto to San Quintin is 520 miles. The typical average speed (including stops for fuel, military, etc.) on Hwy. 1 is 50 mph (Motorhomes and towing can be closer to 40 mph).
520/50 = almost 10 1/2 hours. If you do it in less time, that's more time to enjoy a Pacifico when you get there!

remember have a back up plan if you can't make it

big boat like that you MAY blow a tire
it's not a matter of if its a matter of when

and i'd gas in villa jesus maria before i'd cross the desert
too much distance to risk running out of fuel with a boat in tow

Get an early start. There's lot's of places to stay in El Rosario if you don't make it.

I would agree with this post. Highway and traffic conditions are so variable. You might wish to consider making a reservation at the hotel in Catavina run by the Los Pinos folks. They have a lot of parking space and a really good restaurant.

When you post about going to San Quintin, exactly where in that area are you writing about?

10 hours with boat trailer. not a problem. I have left Loreto after icing down the fish, and pulled into Don Eddies with plenty of daylight to spare several times.

was thinking the Santa maria Inn,never been to Jardines orDon eddies. Any place that there is adequate parking for the boat and truck along with being secure is what were looking for.

No adequate parking at Santa Maria. The Los Cirios is another possibility. You can see their sign right next to the Santa Maria and the Villas. It's on the side street behind the Villas. Nice and reasonable rooms
Great place for when all else is full.

The Hotel Mision Santa Maria, San Quintin has a huge lot next to the rooms... I was there in 2014 with Cameron's Trail of Missions tour (20 trucks) and even the helicopter had plenty of room to park.
Are we talking about the same place?

I have stayed at Los Cirios. However, I do not recommend it in the winter. It is cold and often foggy in San Quintin. The room was freezing and damp. Even worse, the sheets were damp. I got no sleep that night. Carry an electric heater, but that doesn't remedy the wet sheets problem.

Plenty of parking at Las Jardines. Call ahead. If you see you are running short of daylight, stay in El Rosario. No need to push it on the road. Stay safe!

I would add one note to this: Of all the stretches of road to drive in low-light/darkness, the stretch between El Rosario & San Quintin ("El Soccoro") is just about my least favorite. The road is very narrow there with scary dropoffs, big dips hide oncoming cars and it's DAAAAAARK. I'm just sayin' think twice before you shove off from El Rosario... I always think it's like, 20 quick mins to San Quintin, but it's not.
