One of the most fun exotic trips I ever did was in the North Island of New Zealand.
Rick Pollack's "Pursuit", which is a 65' sport fisher and you essential do a 6 passenger long range trip (I think ours was 5 days) out of the town of
Whatkatane, in the North Island, about an hour outside Aukland
No Tuna fishing. This was for their NZ "Kingies"-- Yellowtail up to 85# !
These YT are actually a little different than Baja Yellows. They are shaped like Tuna. We caught live bait to fish for them using heavy tackle. Man!
These fish pulled like tractors!
If you did not get their nose up when hooked you basically lost them to rocky pinnacles. But if you got them out of the rocks they pulled better than
any tuna...
Great fun, great scenery (fished part of it near White Island- which is volcanic and still smokes to this day), and NA is a great country- they speak
the Kings English.
He is very very popular, and books out well in advance, so for your quick getaway I don't know.
But remember the season is backwards right now, so this is end of their summer
Just Google Rick Pollack/Pursuit/Whatkatane, NZ
Excellent food, excellent, excellent excellent
