Any climate change?

Toolfreak - 1-27-2016 at 10:24 AM

Hi nomads I am going to Guerrero Negro in mid March with my family (wife and two teenagers) we have only 9 days in the baja. I am considering Bahia de Los Angeles to chill and soak some sun or would I be better off going a little further to Mulege' maybe coyote beach? Is the weather and water much warmer? Trying to make the most of limited time in baja. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expierence.

Wish it was warm in March!

The Pacific side will be even cooler water than Bahia LA. If you want to get in some dipping, might want to consider renting some farmer john or cut-off wetsuits.

Going to Coyote is a day's drive each way from BOLA. The water might be a tad warmer, but not by much in March, a degree or two. More sheltered from wind, but worth the 2 days of driving for? 9 days just ain't that much. Happy trails.

...yah,,go with the Cortez side,, a fair bit warmer.

Mulege is my preference, but you might also consider Loreto for it's full family appeal.

We head down each year around Easter/Semana Santa for a few weeks and each year is different. The past few years, we have been able to swim in the water at Gonzaga Bay. The water at Ojo de Liebre has been warm enough for our kids to swim/play in it.

As others have said, the weather is not predictable on the Sea of Cortez at this time of year. I would suggest having a fluid plan, watch the weather, and plan accordingly.

Loreto is 2 days from the border
4 days driving for a 9 day vacation?

Bummer! B de LA is the coldest in the whole Sea. Hoping for a week after the 250 camping on the beach down that way. I just hope the wind stays away, miserable getting sandblasted all day.

The temp. differences are fairly minimal. If you camp at the north end of BOLA it's much shallower, so the water near the shore will have more solar gain.... but also more sting rays, which in March will be plentiful wherever you go, so be cautious.
