For the pro's , your guidance for a road trip potential by a baja virgin.
After a 2K mile, 24 hour I-5 slog to somewhere close to a mex crossing, we'll do a
recover for a day or two. I just want to stay in the north - south will wait for another time - an early morning crossing with a slow day drive to
look and visit some sites and walk around. End of the day to end up at your recommendation. A 4 or 5 day quiet sun escape.
small city ok
good swimming / beach walking spot
hiking close by - maybe some big cacti to see up close
good photo ops
some real mex culture / crafts / street scapes.
Know enough spanish to make it interesting or humorous.

Good swimming in the northern half is going to be tough to find on the Pacific side during the winter. Sounds like Ensenada on the Pacific side or San
Felipe on the Sea of Cortez (warmer, probably) might be good destinations. Perhaps cross at Mexicali, go to San Felipe for a couple of nights, then
over to Ensenada for a couple of nights, and then back through the wine country to the Tecate crossing.
P.S. There is a big storm forecast for this coming Sunday. Strong winds and rain, San Diego, Tijuana, maybe to Ensenada. Tecate will be cold, possibly
some snow because of the elevation.

Good chance of rainy weather on the Tijuana-Ensenada corridor. I would take the scenic road to Ensenada and than 3 to San Felipe. Lots of cacti to see
and photograph. Weather will be warmer and if you from the far north, the sea would be warm enough for a dip. Brrrrr....!!David K - 1-29-2016 at 03:41 PM
