It now looks as if our tentative booking for whale watching in Guerrero Negro is falling apart.
If we make our way to GN from San Diego without any reservations, what are the chances of being able to get panga trips in the lagoon -end Feb/beg
March?
If we then travelled to San Ignacio and wanted another whale experience, would we be able to take a chance or is prior booking necessary there. In
both cases, if booking is essential, any recommendations? I saw a website for Ecotourismo Kuyima in S.I. which does overnight trips including
transport from S I & camping on the beach - any opinions on that ? We have never camped before and since we will have luggage restrictions on the
flight from UK may be short on appropriate clothing/equipment for camping.
Lastly, we have been phoning car rental companies in San Diego & have a quote from Dollar which includes Mexican insurance of $25 per day.
Anybody used Dollar for Baja? They say they do not restrict travel to border area only like several other companies.
The more I read on your nomad website the more excited about our trip I get!

Though of course I can't guarentee anything, I don't really think you will have a problem geting a panga without reservations. In fact I'd be willing
to bet that you will get a much better price going direct rather than dealing with an Eco Tour type company.
About the car, the large companys really nail you on the price ($25 per day for Mexican ins. alone is close to robery) there are alot of small rental
car outfits in the San Diego and border area that you can get a much better deal with. Sorry, I live in the Seattle area so I can't help you out
there, if you will have sometime once you get to the states you can research (local phone book) that, or maybe someone here at Nomads that is local
can advise you. Good luck and have a great time.

Kuyima is a nice outfit. You would just need something warm to wear because this time of year it can be windy. But you need warm clothes for
anything this time of year!
If you arrive at either place in the middle of the week you will have a much better chance of getting on a boat.
As for the rental car, I have only used Avis but at that time they were the only choice. If you are renting from any company and tell them that you
are going into Mexico they will require that you have their Mex. insurance before you leave. I dont think that they allow you to shop around.

Based on my experience chasing whales in both Scammons (Guerrero Negro) and Laguna San Ignacio, I think it is highly likely that you would find a way
to get on the water even if you show up with no reservations. Someone will take you out. Kuyima has an area at the lagoon for tent camping, but it
also offers small huts with beds and bedding. Of course their kitchen tent is open to everyone for meals. Have you checked with them to see if any
of the huts are available? As others have noted, they are a very good company and will bend over backwards to accommodate you. Buena suerte,

We made reservations with Enrique @ Malarrimo for 10 of us on March 9th. They still have openings in your time frame if you are interested in a
Scammons tour. The hotel is booked solid so we will stay @ the La Pinta. The cost of the tour is $45 plus $2 park fee and includes the van ride.

We are coming down Mar 5th to go out with Enrigue
He has always made our trips enjoyable, and whales are the best in the early days of March.
