Going west from just above Catavina

Arthur - 1-26-2005 at 10:37 AM

There's a road going west from just above Catavina that goes to La Bocana, and eventually Puerto Canoas. A worse road takes off southwest from it toward Todos Santos and San Tose.

They both look interesting to me, as they pass a few watercourses that might come out of interesting canyons. Has anyone done any exploring around there?

As anyone can tell who's read my recent posts, we're going to be around Catavina soon and want to make the best of it. Unless I change tucks, we'll be in a 2WD Prerunner.

Thanks for all the help so far, and all of the great ideas (and cautions).

Here is the waypoint for that road at Hwy. 1, from my GPS web site...

Faro San Jose (Pacific coast) road: 29?48.42'/ 114?47.93'

Neal Johns knows that area, at least to some interesting sites (La Bocana swamp and petroglyphs and the Cerro Blanco onyx mine)... I am not sure about your access without 4WD!

I drove many of those roads near La Bocana last March. Lots of roads in the area not on the map and I got on the wrong track several times. Also was stopped twice by a military truck with lots of guys. They were nice, but were patrolling the area a lot.

Without any wheels, I'm not surprised it got stuck.

Grover, you just made my day. LMFAO!!

By the way Arthur, did you get your trip approved by the Sacred Saints of the Secret Spots? Better check with them before you go and/or post a trip report about that area.
