It looks like that canyon no longer has a road. So why are the off roaders violating their supposed credo of staying on roads and not forging new roads in roadless areas?
If a road has returned to nature, it is a road less area, and should not be used by score, especially, nor other vehicle.

Perhaps it is time for the overweight racer wanna bes to get out and walk off that middle age spread, eh?

Even a knuckle dragger can be taught to put a space after a period or comma! What's your excuse?

Cool video Paul, thanks for sharing!

Goat, it is a riverbed with flash floods doing many times more damage than a bunch of wheeled vehicles could ever come close to. Using a sandy arroyo vs. a desert road is far better way to avoid damaging shrubs.

For sure, David, and it is also an important and main artery serving a LOT of backcountry to the west which otherwise would not be visited much (way to far to hike in). I have made many a trip thru the Matomi Narrows, both ways, it making a very rewarding long loop-trip possible. There are some remote beautiful palm canyons accessible thru the Narrows that would only be available by very long dirt tracks from the north without the Matomi Wash being drivable. The Goat is simply off-base on this one, further damaging his credibility, IMO.

Well, remember he uses emotions rather than facts to form opinions. Perhaps he can't help it? I prefer to give back facts as a response rather than insults. My posting the 60+ year old palm tree on the beach photo as a gauge to see really how much higher the sea level is, being one example. Like the palm still not in the ocean, Matomi is also undamaged from man following just one flash flood.

don't know if you caught this over at RDC.

Dave Cole the promoter of the Ultra-4 Series including the King of the Hammers was my hero at the San Felipe 250. Dave unstuck numerous vehicles, broke his thumb and continued working into the night and finally towed out Pistols truck. Without Dave, Matomi could have been a road block. Thanks for all you do and I hope the thumb is doing well.

Sure seems silly that off road racers can't manage to navigate off road w/o AAA roadside assistance. Isn't the race supposed to be man against natures sans AAA? Sounds like a bunch of off-road dilettantes got stuck and had to call Joe's Towing, eh? Girly men! They weren't prepared for Baja, they should have been on nomad reading "the list" and getting tips on tire pressure from the nomad peanut gallery!

bajatrailrider - 3-6-2016 at 01:31 PM

That is a good one,but if it was a stick shift. The village idiot, would not know how to shift it. This marooon always posts negative things,to all off road people. Don't worry MT we got you covered.
