given that is 20-25 bucks for the short ride from the airport into town. there are published fares in town (Loreto) but I don't think I've seen anything to Mulege.
how about the bus?

This. The bus station is at he entrance to town, right across the street from Hacienda Suites on Salviaterra.

Bus is good...Taxi amounts to what you can negotiate....

It's really expensive if you deal with the banditos at the airport and the bus is a poor option too . Some times you have to wait and then it takes hours to get there and it's not a good overall experience on the bus .
I call Mulege and make arrangements coming and going and it's about $125 US with the tip . Much better than other options .

I have 10 family coming in June and plan to use
Ignacio Castro Drew in Mulege 615-106-0311. I spoke with him briefly the other day and he says he has a van to bring that many to Pt. Chivato but they have to get a taxi out of the airport . The airport taxi union won't allow him to pick them up there. How bazaar!

Taxi at this distance is unreasonably expensive. Especially from the airport - where they charge $20 for 5 miles to town.

If you have time, take a taxi to the bus station only, and ask for "collectivo" rather than "taxi". $20 van with split fare, usually 3-5 people, and unless you are the last passenger from the plane - you won't have a problem sharing the ride. They all go near the bus station, as it is at the entrance to town.

Bus costs $30 or so. As noted, you might have to wait "sometimes" - depends when you land. From the memory, it leaves around 2, 4-something and 6-something. So on that 10am plane from LA you should be able to catch 4pm bus. Check the schedule on ABC bus website. It doesn't really take "hours" to get there. Long distance bus, same speed as a car, very comfortable, better view than from a car and there is a washroom. Though it makes one or two stops on the way. About 2 hours total as I recall.

Taxi from Mulege to your destination in town should be cheap, it's only airport taxi that are expensive.

PS: forgot to mention - for best views of Concepcion Bay take the right window seat.

Just a note about the bus . The last time I used it to Mulege it was late getting to Loreto by about 2 hrs. , not always but you never know . It seems like it's always a couple of hrs. setting in the parking lot waiting in Loreto . Then you have to spend an hour or so at the military check point and another 1/2 hour or more while it stops for dinner at a roadside Café . It will take a lot more than 2 hrs. but what the heck , if you like setting on a smelly bus for 5 or 6 hrs. you'll have a great time .

My last few trips on ABC buses - North and South - were on time. The cab rolled into depot, bus already there, quick question if it's Sur o Norte, and off I went. Once it was 30 minutes late, and once it stopped for lunch - it would've stopped there anyway, but with lunch the stop takes longer. Somehow after lunch it managed to get to destination with very little delay. Don't recall it being particularly smelly. Sitting on a bus 5 or 6 hours - i.e. actual ride - possible, though not likely. Even to Sta Rosalia it takes less than 4 hours total with stops. Modern tourist class buses, better than Greyhound.

Military checkpoints would probably stop a car too.

If it's more than 2 people, hiring a van makes sense.
