TIJUANA CROSSING

BAJA.DESERT.RAT - 4-9-2016 at 10:37 AM

Hola,

there was a previous post that mentioned the road repair at the tijuana crossing.

is there a proposed finish date ?

is the route going north and south pretty well marked in mexico ? i am a very navigationally impaired senior that usually crosses at tecate and have never crossed at the new tj crossing.

i'll print out the maps that were previously posted, just in case.

also, is the slide area on the toll road fixed ( for now ) or are there detours using the old road ?

i thank you in advance,

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

The slide area has been fixed for quite a while now

TJ south info:

When you pass through Mexican Customs and have your FMM, get in the right lane and look for the overhead sign that says "CENTRO". Get in that lane. You will go up hill and get on a bridge. Stay in the right lane, and make an immediate right turn where it says "Rosarito Cuota".

After about a mile, the construction detour will merge with the regular International road southbound and just follow the road as you would usually do

I crossed northbound at San Ysidro a couple of days ago. I took Second Street from the toll road to the border crossing. It's a straight shot if you are using the regular lanes. Getting to the Ready and Sentri lanes is more complicated.

Second Street is the street you are on if you just follow the road after the last toll booth. It will curve to the east and you just stay on it, no turns. You'll go through town but it's a multi-lane street and moves a lot of traffic at a good rate. It ends at the border crossing.

BTW, I crossed northbound on Wednesday at 10 AM, regular lanes, one hour. It will probably be busier on a Monday.

I generally cross at Otay N/B

If I am headed to TJ for anything, I take the free road from Rosarito and follow it to the round-abouts....I think there are direction signs to San Diego from that point.
