Mercedes Ute

chuckie - 4-14-2016 at 06:11 AM

I see on this mornings auto news, that Mercedes may be bringing their Ute to the US....Price here is projected to be around 255,000 bucks...That will make a big dent in the Tacoma market, I am sure...

Udo - 4-14-2016 at 06:48 AM

:o :light: :bounce:

bajatrailrider - 4-14-2016 at 08:40 AM

Great joke:bounce:

chuckie - 4-14-2016 at 09:24 AM

Not a joke, it was on MSN news this morning! I cant hardly wait...as soon as Old Smokey wears out...I;m all in...I do feel sorry for the soon to be out of work Mexican Toyota builders....

Hook - 4-14-2016 at 10:02 AM

You were being serious about it impacting the Tacoma market?

motoged - 4-14-2016 at 10:14 AM

AKgringo - 4-15-2016 at 08:53 AM

The truck I saw on the news that Chuckie is talking about, is a whole different animal than the one in the link Motoged provided! About the only thing they share is the nameplate.

For an animal metaphor, It would be like comparing a German short hair to a Rottweiler! (I thought I should keep it German)

chuckie - 4-15-2016 at 10:10 AM

Ja, Das ist ein Lichtensteiner Polka, mein shatz! Ooompa Oooompa

AK,
Do you have a link for that one you are referring to?.....(yes I have googled and several models seem to show up)....

Fernweh - 4-15-2016 at 12:48 PM

There are a few Mercedes SUV's to talk about, if you know your stuff and not just let hot air come out.....

This is your run-of-the-mill workhorse G500

This is the new beast with portal axles and that very high price tag. Not easy to compare with a Toy ota

Here the boys chatting about it.....

It was a version of the bright yellow one that Fernweh posted, with am extended cab and a truck bed. Twin turbocharged V-8, high clearance, bad boy!

Edit; Somehow, my remarks came out as a quote from Motoged! Sorry about that.

4x4abc - 4-15-2016 at 04:18 PM

now we are talking - but it is around $600,000

MMc - 4-15-2016 at 06:42 PM

for that money why not get a unimog?

4x4abc - 4-16-2016 at 02:10 AM

because a Unimog is a big effing commercial truck (painfully slow as well) that won't fit on any of the really intriguing Baja trails that lead to great adventures.

chuckie - 4-16-2016 at 02:52 AM

I wasn't even going to waste a keystroke on answering that question..But, speaking of, on my way back from New Mexico last week, I passed a used car lot that had Unimogs and Pinzgauers on it,,,..I didn't stop...

Well, if you compared them, you would find that the merc is too expensive, and the toyotas are just as capable and much more affordable.
You would also find that only pretentious pricks buy cars north of $100,000 dollars.

MMc - 4-16-2016 at 07:27 AM

It is a rhetorical question. Hell lambo made a 4x4 too. I can't believe you guys took it seriously. Try mixing a little fiber in your diet.

Geezo, Goatley is off his meds early today.............

wessongroup - 4-16-2016 at 07:22 PM

Say, what's the "break point" on NOT being a prick when purchasing a vehicle ...:biggrin:

Not sure how big this one would "rank" on the prick scale

Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG 6X6

Here's one in FL ... for $975,000 if anyone is interested in a reclassification :biggrin:

the finer point in the clip is that the rifle is made by the same company as the truck - Steyr in Austria

Navy Seals bought them - Canadian Armed forces bought them (and many other armies) - are you saying that our military is comprised of pretentious pricks?

David K - 4-16-2016 at 08:43 PM

Your ard Karls's Mercedes were terrific on the Pole Line Road.
Seeing is believing... The Toyotas, Jeeps and Nissan also passed the test. What failed? The Fords on the trip!

There are pretentious pricks everywhere.

As a pretentious prick, you should learn that "comprised of" is never correct.

P.s. Looks like that merc has an oil leak, eh? Is the seals had bought American 9or Japanese), their suv would not be dripping oil.

4x4abc - 4-16-2016 at 08:48 PM

yes, the new G-Class models are a bit overpriced
but the quality is beyond anything else you can buy

here is a good example - a couple of guys bought a 1988 230GE G-Class (2.3 liter, 125 horses)
they raced it pretty much stock in the recent Sonora Rally
5th overall - 1st in their class
show me another stock 4x4 that could do this

http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/threads/rally-raid-g-wagen-...

ok - now go tear me apart

MMc - 4-16-2016 at 08:56 PM

Spending $150,000.00 to $500,000.00 for a Baja vehicle is a bit much especially when you get there and you see a old Datsun rolling rust bucket collecting the $5.00 to camp there.

I actually googled it before I used it - Google said, it was OK to use it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprised_of

what else can I do to make you happy?
can anyone make you happy?

Any of the Toyota 4wds, e.g. Series 70, 4Runner Trd pro, a ford raptor, etc. Many others would be fine rally cars.

what's wrong with people spending too much money on something that they don't need? Cars, clothing, watches, furniture etc. Who cares. It creates jobs. If everyone would just buy the essentials - you and I
might not have a job.

chuckie - 4-17-2016 at 07:03 AM

I'm with Harald...If I had the means, I would spend that kind of money...as to MMC's comment...Hey! I don't want to drive" an old Datsun rolling rust bucket"...To each his own...(Harald? I don't have a job:D)...We went by jobs a LONG time ago...
