woody with a view - 5-23-2016 at 08:01 AM

I hear Ford is bringing back the Ranger, in diesel. Why can't we have a diesel HiLux?

chuckie - 5-23-2016 at 08:02 AM

Because....

Maybe you can? I have seen new Hilux trucks in Baja with Mexican plates.

chippy - 5-23-2016 at 11:29 AM

No 4x4 or diesel options in the Hilux down here:(. Ford Ranger has diesel and 4x4 options as do Mitsubishi,Nissan and VW.:bounce:

I had some seat time in a VW 2years ago in Mulege..Diesel powered and pretty impressive...My wife and I were staying at a lodge in the Scottish Highlands and had the use of a "Chevrolet Tracker" thingy with a lil Turbo diesel in it....Really neat..all of of our use was non public road..If I could have figured out a way to do it, I would have brought one back...

Carry-on?

chuckie - 5-23-2016 at 02:47 PM

Hadnt had enough Scots Whisky to try that....I did bring a GIANT set of Moose Horns (71inches) from Kenai Alaska carryon....ayeyiyi.....jajaja I know, killer, murderer etc....NO my conscience doesn't bother me, he et good...

monoloco - 5-23-2016 at 03:41 PM

Any diesel that passes current US emission standards isn't worth having IMHO. Any fuel savings will be rapidly eclipsed by maintenance costs.

chuckie - 5-23-2016 at 04:16 PM

Spoken by someone who has never owned a diesel...I have NEVER bought one to save money on fuel...My one ton Dodge Cummins which I gave to my boy now has 892,000 miles on it...Head has never been off....IMHO your HO aint worth squat...

The problem with the current batch of diesels that are designed for meeting air quality standards is that they are overly complicated beasts with delicate anti pollution gear that costs a fortune to repair when they inevitably go south. I am not anti diesel at all, I currently drive a 2000 f350 Powerstroke, and use a diesel generator for my home, and have had many diesel trucks and other equipment. It is my opinion that the overly complicated and extremely expensive diesel engines that they are currently installing in vehicles pretty much negate the benefits. Try and find someone to diagnose and fix a new Ford, Cummins, or Isuzu(Duramax) diesel in Viscaino or Santa Rosalia. Good luck, you'll be looking for a tow truck to the border.

willyAirstream - 5-25-2016 at 05:52 AM

Moose horns are very rare.

woody with a view - 5-25-2016 at 05:57 AM

Camel toes have become very rare as well!

Chuckles,
Mono was incorrectly talking about passing current emissions stds with a modern engine, you are incorrectly talking about a 20 year old engine. Apples and oranges.

The reason you liked the VW so much is because the emissions system was switched off. I think no longer sells diesels. Are they still selling any cars?

Woody, not that rare really....you just need a sharp eye...and you can't just take any CT you see ...there seems to be a social protocol for collecting them.

Oh, don't even think of taxidermy...:o

Moose horns are more than rare, I have never seen them!

Antlers however, are very common around my part of the forest.

:O:wow::smug:

Reminded me of Ishtar for some reason.....

chuckie - 5-26-2016 at 11:52 AM

That Moose was very horny....Reminded me of Motoged...Goatley I know about the difference in old and new diesels....If I were to buy a NEW truck it wouldn't be a diesel...I no longer need a big work truck and the advantages of owning a Diesel unless you need one have somewhat faded....And, I have ol smokey who only has 376.000 on him so it will outlast me, I suspect..
