First Big Dorado Santa Rosalia, Mulege

Pescador - 5-28-2016 at 09:53 AM

This is the first big dorado I have seen for the season. It was caught by Punta Chivato fisherman Al Lampe. This would be a serious contender for the upcoming Mulege Dorado Tournament of the 2,3.4 of June or the Bulls Only Punta Chivato Tournament scheduled for the 24,25,26 of June.

It is a nice fish and congratulations to Al Lampe

Nice fish! It has always amazed me how quickly the color changes from the moment it is caught, to when it hits the dock.

Only Chuckie would know that about me. I have had the same fish for the last 5 years, pull it out of the freezer two days before the tourney, win first place, put $1,000 in my pocket and return the fish to the freezer.

But this is "Cowboy" Al Lampe from Wyoming and he does not know where my freezer is.

That green is color is the absolute bomb. I suppose that color does not last and is the first thing to go unless I am mistaken.

This noble fish's non smile is appropriate and the yummy filets to come will hopefully be shared among many deserving, including the crew. Share the wealth.

18 boats, approx, 35 anglers over two days (~560 man/hours of fishing) yielded no weighable dorado in San Carlos this past weekend. Minimum weight was 15#.

Make that WOMAN/hours of fishing as it was the ladies tournament. No bait of ANY kind tournament.

No tuna or wahoo, either.

Judging by the time from "lines in" to "check in, back at the marina", no boats went very far, though. Billfish have been near shore, 1-15 miles out.

There were approximately 30-35 billfish of various sorts caught.

notice how the VAST majority of these clowns shown with their 'catch' ... don't exactly look like they're lacking any protein! In FACT ... their problem has been consuming too much fat and animal protein (loaded with hormone IGF-1) that has landed them in these health dilemas.

(just like 'senor stento cinqo' bubbha-belly) :bounce:

Man, you have to love the experts who weigh a picture of a fish. So the spread is 15 lbs to 40 lbs. How could one fish have such a variance of weights. I thought it would be fun to see what the guesstimates would be. The fish was 21.5, digital.

But here is a video that I think BEZELL posted on YouTube.
