I had two 2.5 gal red plastic gas cans -- one that I found in the dump a long time ago, and another that I bought new -- and paid a lot extra for
because it meets the new clean air regs.
On our last Baja trip, the new can leaked and seeped all over the place, creating fumes that were probably just waiting for a spark to create a real
explosive problem. The old can just sat there and did what it was made to do -- hold gasoline. So I tossed the new one.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a 2.5 gal gas can that will do what it's supposed to do? If I had a bigger rig or used more gas, I'd have a
5-gal can or two, but we're pretty careful and with my 4-cyl Prerunner I haven't even dipped into those small cans so far.

The best fuel cans I've come across are the NATO type. You can do a search on the web for the best price. They are rugged and do not leak. http://www.britishpacific.com/offroad/jerryCans.html

They sure are. The metal ones from the site mentioned above are cheaper.

I used European Army Jerry cans..but they are 5 gal. $19 bucks at a place in Sacramento,Ca, off El Camino Blvd. He can order them
up and ship to you.

For safety it is a good idea to empty your can into the tank as soon as there is room (50-100 mi). You are still carrying the "extra" gas, but it is
safely in your tank where it belongs.
It is all about range anyway, isn't it? Hauling an empty can around most of the time is better than a full one all the time, especially on bumpy dirt
roads.
Besides, you probably gotta stop to pee after the refreshment you had at the gas station an hour ago.

Put that can outside of your auto. Up top of a roof rack is best. Dont be stupid to stow to the auto's interior. I've seen that done more than a few
times.

Carrying a gas can inside the truck is one of the few mistakes I haven't made.
Now, if I can just figure out how to make my GD avatar display . . . I started a page on Yahoo Photos, it accepted a .jpg, I gave the Nomad list the
URL that Yahoo was displaying. It ended in "jpg" so it couldn't have been the URL only of the page, but . . . arrrrggh!
Is this off-topic, or what?
