When it was frozen, it was 8 cents. Never saw the nickel rate.AKgringo - 6-18-2016 at 04:48 PM
When we crossed the border heading south in February 1986, it was about 180 pesos to the dollar. When We crossed heading north in early May, it was
about 350!
Numbers are approximate, because it was changing by the hour. Greenbacks went a long, long way back then.SFandH - 6-18-2016 at 05:26 PM
This chart shows 20.50 pesos per dollar; i.e., 1 peso = a nickel on 1 September 1976. At least I think that's what it shows.
During this devaluation period between the release of the frozen Peso
[ 12.5 to 1] and the NP, prices fluctuated to keep up with deterioration of the Peso. There were very few bargains as I recall, the Peso being over
3000 to 1 before The NP was put in place. It was like the old Yen. Nobody in the world would touch disintegrating currency.
