UDO & JANA'S NEW HOUSE IN PUNTA BANDA, (ENSENADA AREA)

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 01:54 PM

WE MOVED IN ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND:

(The inside is finished, but the outside still has a couple of months to go).

Part of the dream closet that Jana wanted

Our bedroom with a full view of Ensenada bay

Our master bath

Our family room

The guest bedroom

Guest bathroom

Inlaid art work in guest bath

Artful guest sink

Our kitchen

View from kitchen window

Lots of pantry space

Kitchen centerpiece

Formal dining room

Living room area with view of the Ensenada bay.

Formal dining room with custom built bar.

Even my parrot, Chico, has his own formal space where he can watch the kitchen and the family room. He'll also have an outdoor aviary when the deck is finished.

I will publish the outside photos when everything is finished.

fishbuck - 7-3-2016 at 01:57 PM

I think something is a little fishy about the place... and ofcourse I approve of that.
Very nice Udo and Jana

BigBearRider - 7-3-2016 at 01:57 PM

Very nice. I especially like the floor.

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 02:00 PM

That is the first thing everyone comments on when they walk in. The floor was Jana's idea.

woody with a view - 7-3-2016 at 02:13 PM

i like the shower floor tile. one of my projects is to do the bathroom floor like that but with the dark stones.

Bajaboy - 7-3-2016 at 02:13 PM

Congrats amigo!

fishbuck - 7-3-2016 at 02:23 PM

Is Jack Smith (his famous house) your neighbor?

BornFisher - 7-3-2016 at 02:37 PM

Got a great crib there Udo!! CONGRATS!!!

I think Jack Smith's house is farther south, near Santo Tomas. The name escapes me at the moment.

BigBearRider - 7-3-2016 at 02:48 PM

La Bocana was the name. Not the one in BCS, but by Santo Tomas.

fishbuck - 7-3-2016 at 02:53 PM

Ok I will search and get properly calibrated. Thanks

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 02:58 PM

It was a challenge to even find what I did in Ensenada. San Diego area, you'll have an easier time with supplies.

I think I remember now. Punda Banda is the La Bufadora area. Right?

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 03:01 PM

You are welcome to come by again. I'll be happy to prepare some lobster at that time for you and your wife, Cliff.

Correct. It's on the way to La Bufadora. About 10 minutes away.

pauldavidmena - 7-3-2016 at 03:08 PM

Nice digs! Is the home in Bahia Asuncion still on the market?

BajaBlanca - 7-3-2016 at 03:12 PM

Udo - what a dream home! So Baja, so beautiful.

Bajahowodd - 7-3-2016 at 03:20 PM

I also want to chime in here. The place looks magnificent. Best of luck.

But, have sold your your place down by Shari?

No question that this Punta Banda place is way more accessible and has many more amenities nearby.

Cliffy - 7-3-2016 at 03:23 PM

Now that is a cool house!

Love that area. So pretty there.

grace59 - 7-3-2016 at 03:27 PM

What a beautiful home in a beautiful area! I love that closet! Congratulations! Wishing you many years of happiness there.

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 03:50 PM

Yes, but there is a long term renter there now.

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 03:54 PM

There is no question that we wanted to build a home somewhat more accessible to medical facilities nearby, and still have a home with the B A J A feel to it.

In Ensenada area we have the best of both worlds.

David K - 7-3-2016 at 04:23 PM

I don't see any maps on the wall???

LOL, seriously, it is a beautiful home you guys!

Ken Bondy - 7-3-2016 at 04:55 PM

Gorgeous!!!!

Udo - 7-3-2016 at 06:48 PM

I am looking for a muralist that CAN paint maps, palm trees, and vineyards on these HUGE walls we have, David.

Udo,
The house is absolutely beautiful but I did not see a flip-flop wall.

Terry28 - 7-3-2016 at 10:07 PM

I gotta ask...is that a bidet in the master bath??? Very nice digs.

55steve - 7-4-2016 at 07:35 AM

I love everything about the place but the bidet is certainly a special touch...or no touch as the case may be!

Udo - 7-4-2016 at 08:11 AM

Yes, the bidet is in the master bath. I have to use it or I get a severe rash (because of my illness).

Love the details in the house, but that range is incredible! Enjoy your new casa.

TMW - 7-4-2016 at 08:31 AM

Wow, very nice. You two have a diamond there.

PabloS - 7-4-2016 at 09:41 AM

Beautiful!! Love the tile. Kitchen is a cooks dream, looks like mine in Prescott AZ.

Udo - 7-4-2016 at 01:35 PM

Thanks, Pablo!

And you are right about the weather, Bob. Even on warm days, we are 10º cooler than downtown Ensenada, and on warmer days...a nice breeze blows gently.

I think someone once posted somewhere that Punta Banda has it's own weather.

EnsenadaDr - 7-5-2016 at 07:53 AM

Absolutely gorgeous!!

Elona - 7-5-2016 at 08:54 AM

Oh, I like your guest room ;).

The house is so beautiful .

Udo - 7-5-2016 at 06:46 PM

Anytime you wish to stay here, Elona, the room is yours!

BTW, I also have a German renter in our other house in Bahia Asunción.

Congratulations on the new home. What beautiful place & location. Love the view!

(Be sure let us know when the whales start passing by offshore.)

Udo - 7-6-2016 at 07:58 AM

It is a SHE, Elona.

Plus she has traveled alone thought most of the peninsula. Last month she had to make a trip to the US which she also drove alone round trip.

I am no longer surprised by all the Germans that chose to travel the length of the peninsula, with or without a family, plus I have spoken with at least 15 motorcycle riders making the trip to Cabo on a BMW dual-sport motorcycle.

We have run into a large number of Europeans in Baja. They seem to be more curiou8s about the world that does the average American.

Elona - 7-8-2016 at 12:34 PM

That is true. We Germans like to travel, especially to the USA.

I'm doing a lot of advertising for the Baja California ;).

Udo - 7-8-2016 at 01:16 PM

May I suggest an edit to your wonderful posting in German so that travelers may also visit in December, March and April. March and April are the better months to visit if someone wants to see the cactus in full bloom. Feb, March are better to see the whales.

Bajahowodd - 7-8-2016 at 04:06 PM

We were once on a whale watching boat in San Ignacio that was shared with a young German couple who had traveled to Argentina and then undertook a motorcycle tour all the way to Vancouver. I'm embarrassed to say that they spoke more fluent Spanish than did I.

Udo - 7-8-2016 at 07:52 PM

About 6 years ago, Jana and I ran into a German family in San Ignacio that was driving a rented van. They knew no Spanish and their English was pretty Genglish.
So I ended up being their interpreter from German, to English to Spanish.
At the end of the day I did not know what my nationality was!

JC43 - 7-8-2016 at 11:39 PM

Udo,
first and foremost THANKS for the info you gave me by u2u.
Secondly ... your new house is awesome !
3rd. Sorry that I did not write earlier, but we are on the road most of the time. Having a long trip from CSL to Milwaukee to Seattle and now back. And always some business at every spot. Lasted for 3+ month now.
About your German renter - Elona. Our friends in Mulege, which are no Nomads are Germans too. So maybe we can bring those folks together?
Do you speak German? B/c you said something about translating...
I for my part learned some German language through our friends as they speak English as well. And businesswise, we have a lot of business in Germany going on.

Hi Udo,

I'll be happy to take your suggestion and mention it on my website.

So far we have met helpful people in the States and Baja California, too.

I learned English at school and traveling to the United States for 30 years. But in Germany I can barely speak English. Therefore, I have little practice.

I think that only native speakers have no Accent and Genglish (we call it Denglish ;), because of Deutschland + english) sounds pretty nice.

Most Americans believe I 'm from Texas . People from Texas will definitely have a terrible accent ;).

For 3 years I am trying to learn Spanish. You see, I try my best.

Hi,

I am not Udo's renter.

2015 we stayed one night in Mulege at Christian and Lenas (Casa Granada) house. Do you mean these people ;) ?

It's great, that you are interested to learn the German language.

bajadock - 7-9-2016 at 04:00 PM

Cheers, Jana and Udo.
When are the grand opening parties???

Udo - 7-9-2016 at 05:36 PM

When the front yard and deck are finished so we can host a bunch of people.
We have the parking room, just no place to put 50-60 people. (plus food and drinks).

O.K., that was a mix-up then. So, Udo has a German renter and you as a friend, correct?
I talked to our German friends in Mulege briefly this morning. They know Christian and Lena/Casa Granada. But C an L are not in Mulege at this time they said. They said most of the time C and L are gone and not running their B&B, but not very sure about that. We will be in Mulege about Tuesday/Wednesday and of course visiting our friends. Great people! Some time ago my company was interested in their home which is for sale.
Nun denn, das wandern ist des muellers Lust!!!
Guten Tag.

 That's correct. Udo is my Baja Nomad friend :D.

I believe, that living in Mulege is too boring for Christian and Lena.

After Odile most of the houses were destroyed and for sale. I like the playas of the Bahia Conception, but not Mulege. For me there are nicer places in the Baja ;).

First of all we love hiking and exploring the southwest of the USA. Especially the canyons and colourful landscapes of the Colorado Plateau.

JC43 - 7-10-2016 at 12:29 PM

Having Udo and his wife Jana as a friend is easy. Udo is one of the best guys here in BN. Never unfriendly. Never using bad words. Always helpful. I would call him one of the rare species called `Gentleman´.
There are not too many of his kind here in BajaNomad!
Unfortunately I never met Udo and Jana. But for a split moment we had the chance to meet. Back at the time when Udo was looking for a spot to build a house, he had the idea of maybe selecting Mulege.
Back then I lived in Mulege and Udo had contact with our friends there.
About Christian and Lena. They selected a spot along the river for their home. And as everybody knows, the flooding along the river is s huge problem for all dwellings there.
Just look at the Orchard. The entire row of homes along the river is gone - washed into the Sea of Cortez.
We all know that buying or building along the river is "peligro"! But overall, Mulege is still the nice little town so many people prefer to live in.
No real crime. No (or just minor) break-ins. The nicest people in all of Baja for sure. In one word: A tropical paradise for couples or families.
Now something my friends gave me to write in German language.
In Mulege kann man noch zu Fuss einkaufen. Das ist ganz selten, weil man überall hinlaufen kann.
For the English folks: In Mulege it is possible to go shopping without a car. That is rare because one can walk to any shop on ones feet.
Have fun.

JC43 - 7-10-2016 at 12:33 PM

WTF happened w/ the post? No idea!

JC is NOT a German. Holding dual Citizenship. Parents mix Mex/US. JC only has good friends which are Germans. That's all.
