Pavo!

Istanbul is the only city that lies on 2 continents.

I was there around 1971 and it was quite an experience. Harsh but enjoyable people.

Under control...Kerry has expressed "gravest Concern" business as usual Maybe it was gravy concern:?:

BajaBlanca - 7-15-2016 at 04:56 PM

A country I so want to visit. Sure hope the situation settles down. I wonder if the world has always been so chaotic but we just didn't have the means to find out so quickly that the bird was out of the bag.

I hope that all people who want to leave can fly the coop.

Not quite correct.
The city on the European side is called Konstantinople.
The one on the asien site is Instanbul.
But both cities have the same government.
Compare it to Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
Two cities --- one government.

micah202 - 7-16-2016 at 11:01 AM

Bajahowodd - 7-16-2016 at 04:47 PM

Been to Istanbul a number of times. It is one of the great cities of the world.

That said, there is much speculation that Erdogan was actually behind this failed coup to increase his power and identify his enemies.

When I was in Istanbul back in 2000, he was mayor. He attempted unsuccessfully to ban the sale of alcohol in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. He was not well liked by the urban educated folks, but had great support in the rural areas.

He is an Islamist who has slowly been de-secularizing the country, in an attempt to make it an Islamist state.

The father of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemel Attaurk must be spinning in his grave.

Few and far between. There is a very good Turkish restaurant in Tijuana called El Turco. Next stop South, there's the Otantique Cafe & Hookah in Cabo.

You can't hardly buy a package of hotdogs down here that aren't made of Pavo...... lips and cheeks, noses and pee parts. It's a huge domestic industry.

I was in Nigeria for two years in the late 1960s as a Peace Corps volunteer. I lived through one military coup and the start of a civil war. The world has always been chaotic, maybe more so now. The 7/24 instant news cycle has made us more aware of everything. How many people on this forum have heard of the civil war fought between Nigeria and the secessionist Biafra? An estimated 500,000 - 1,000,000 people died. I witnessed rioting and ethnic cleansing with thousands of people fleeing south. There was no internet, little telephone service, and no smart phones with video. Mail service was often interrupted at times up to 4-6 weeks. And most of us still in country knew few details of what was actually going on.

bajabuddha - 7-17-2016 at 04:20 PM

Yup, hard to find good pork anything in Baja.... lunchmeat (especially Jamon), hot dawgs... read the fine print: DE PAVO plain as day. Just have to settle for turkey, with or without Edrogan spices and sauce. But PEE PARTS? Prove it. They DON'T PEE; they have no urinary tract... comes out in their other waste, that's the white part. Sorry to bust your bubble, Big D..... birds don't pee, just politicians, and those who have to bring same to the forums.
