Cabalgata (group horseback ride) Rancho el Topo, August 13-14, 2016
Rancho el Topo is hosting a cabalgata the weekend of August 13-14, 2016.
The Sandoval family welcomes visitors to their ranch in the heart of the Sierra de Juárez. 25 miles south of La Rumorosa (Highway 2) on dirt roads and
18 miles north of the Parque Nacional / Laguna Hanson. At an elevation of 5,000', we will ride through forests of Jeffrey & pinyon pine, and
granite boulders. Rides sometimes go to the edge of the escarpment to view the largest of the eastside canyons, Canyon el Tajo, and the desert of
Laguna Salada below.
Most people will bring their own horses by trailer, often arriving on Friday. Horses will be available to rent, with advance reservation.
Camp under the pines. Food is available at their rustic restaurant.
An outdoor climbing wall was completed in 2015. Try out the 35' high cliff with several routes consisting of artificial holds bolted to a granite.
Climbing shoes and harnesses are available.
Prices at the ranch are very reasonable.
In addition to the adventure, cabalgatas are an interesting cultural event. The ride is usually followed by a fiesta mood around the campfire,
sometimes with live music, and always a friendly vibe. Some attendees will be seasoned vaqueros, Mexican families who make the circuit of numerous
cabalgatas, and a few gringos.
